Compensation:
$70,000- 90,000 + Commission + Benefits LNI Custom Manufacturing is a third-generation custom steel and aluminum fabrication company specializing in architecturally exposed structural steel, transit infrastructure, custom canopies, wayfinding signage, specialty public works, and highly customized fabricated systems.
Representative projects include:
Custom streetcar and BRT canopies Transit shelters and public infrastructure Fuel tank canopies and equipment enclosures Bus shelters, benches, kiosks, ad panels, and transit amenities Architecturally exposed structural steel systems Custom structural and sheet metal fabrication LNI operates as a dynamic custom fabrication environment — not a repetitive production shop. Projects vary significantly in size, complexity, and delivery requirements, and our team operates with a high level of adaptability, accountability, and collaboration. We are seeking a highly organized and technically capable Estimator to support opportunity sourcing, preconstruction coordination, estimating, proposal generation, and bid management for public works and custom fabrication projects. This role is ideal for someone with experience or interest in custom fabrication, specialty contracting, architectural metals, miscellaneous metals, signage, structural steel, transit infrastructure, or commercial/public works construction. Responsibilities (not a Project Management role) Opportunity Sourcing & Project Review Identify and track public and private bid opportunities aligned with LNI's fabrication capabilities Monitor procurement platforms, public agency bid boards, and GC invitations Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents Prepare concise project discovery summaries for internal review & approval Cost Estimating & Preconstruction Perform quantity takeoffs and conceptual estimating Develop labor, material, freight, equipment, and subcontractor cost projections Coordinate vendor and subcontractor pricing Identify long lead items, procurement concerns, and fabrication constraints Assist in evaluating fabrication methods, transportation requirements, and installation logistics Help identify opportunities for modularization, segmented shipping, and field assembly Bid Coordination & Proposal Preparation Manage bid schedules, addenda, RFIs, and document control Prepare proposals, quotations, scope letters, exclusions, and clarifications Coordinate bid deliverables including forms, bonding requirements, notarization, and signatures Assist in determining project work plan Ensure bid submissions are accurate, organized, and submitted on time Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination Solicit and manage vendor and subcontractor participation Verify scope alignment, lead times, pricing completeness, specification conformance, and project capability Coordinate with suppliers, fabrication partners, freight providers, and specialty subcontractors Administrative & Documentation Responsibilities Maintain organized project files and bid documentation within company systems Track estimating activity, bid status, and project deliverables Maintain project correspondence, revisions, and historical cost information Assist with continuous improvement of estimating and preconstruction workflows Qualifications Public Works bid preperation experience preferred Experience in estimating, construction coordination, project engineering, fabrication, specialty contracting, or related industries preferred Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications Strong organizational and communication skills Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously Self-motivated, adaptable, and detail-oriented Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking ability Proficiency with Microsoft Office and PDF/document management software Experience with Bluebeam, estimating software, ERP systems, or quoting software is a plus Preferred Backgrounds Experience in any of the following industries is highly valued: Structural steel Miscellaneous metals Architectural metals Signage Specialty fabrication Public works construction Transit infrastructure Commercial construction Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $70,000- 90,000 depending on experience Performance-based commission structure 401(k) matching Paid time off Long-term growth opportunity within an established and growing fabrication company
