Job Description
We are looking to add to our amazing team of Estimators and Project Managers. If you are ready for your next challenge, want to be part of a tight knit team and not just be another number to push out bids then get ready to join a 50-year-old 2nd generation family run Site and Highway contractor in Southern NJ. We are growing and ready to offer a position for an Estimator to help us with anticipated growth over the coming years. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing and submitting comprehensive bids for site preparation, underground utility, highway, roadway, bridge, and asphalt paving projects in New Jersey, Delaware, and Eastern Pennsylvania. The Estimator must have knowledge of construction means and methods, project schedule preparation, costs, and engineering principles. The Estimator will be responsible for developing bid strategies, site investigations, managing contracts, takeoffs, detailed breakdown of cost components, indirect cost and analysis of profit margins.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify bid opportunities and selection of projects to bid
- Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid
- Ensures bids proposals are accurate and completed in a timely fashion to allow for team review prior to submission.
- Evaluates bidding risks and strategies and analyzes alternative solutions, and construction methods to increase competitiveness.
- Prepares and/or reviews "take-off" quantities to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates
- Reviews, interprets, and analyzes project documentation: drawings, specifications, data, geotechnical reports, addendums, etc.
- Prepares complete project scope estimates based on proposal documentation with detailed pricing and bid qualifications from concept to completion.
- Evaluates DBE/SBE goal requirements to ensure project compliance.
- Utilize HCSS Heavy Bid to present estimate results in a detailed breakdown format suitable for use by the project manager and the project team
- Attend client pre-bid meetings and visit job sites. Keep a record of all verbal information disseminated by the client during the pre-bid meeting and site visit
- Prepare project cost estimates from the client's RFQ documents and drawings and any other information learned during the pre-bid showing
- Solicits pricing suppliers/vendors and subcontractors for bidding while providing analysis and scope to determine best value. Based on analysis, proactively works to pursue vendors/suppliers and subcontractors to commit to best pricing.
- Must have ability to explain details behind each estimate, including the basis of the man-hours allocated for each task, personnel resources needed to execute each task, etc.
- Maintain cost estimating tools including databases, spreadsheets, and other computer-based applications to keep updated information on past performance and industry standards
- Assists Project Manager on alternative project execution approaches based on the scope of work and the most cost-effective execution methods available
- Maintain lines of communication between company departments, project manager, and client with regards to cost estimating activities
- Follows up with clients to ensure bid receipt and to identify potential obstacles and facilitates negotiations for submitted bid proposals.
- Interact with construction teams to provide guidance on estimates for projects and interpret field data for future estimating use.
- Research construction history for techniques related to job elements and productivity, value enhancing, value engineering, and alternative constructability.
- Flexibility to perform some project management duties.

Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil preferred), Construction Management, Engineering Technology Preferred but not required if extensive experience
- Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, technical specifications/procedures, and government regulations.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Estimator on Relevant Heavy Civil Construction Required
- Experience estimating multiple projects in excess of $25 Million
- Verifiable Experience estimating mass excavation and utility projects, storm water, bridges, treatment plants, pump stations Required
- Experience with Agtek and HCSS Heavy Bid and Heavy Job Required
- Flexibility to effectively deal with changing priorities and timelines through analytical problem-solving.
- Able to work independently and in a collaborative team-oriented environment
- Displays superior written and oral communication skills
Pay:
$65,000.00- $125,000.
