President Lees-McRae is a small, four-year, liberal arts college serving Appalachia and the Southeastern United States. The College is located in the town of Banner Elk in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina. Banner Elk is nestled between two popular ski areas and is within a short drive of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Appalachian Trail. The area is popular to outdoor enthusiasts: skiing, cycling, hiking, climbing and fly fishing are among the many attractions. Job Summary/Objective Under the direct supervision of the President, the Executive Assistant to the President provides and coordinates high‑level executive support to advance and support the President's leadership and decision‑making responsibilities. The position serves as a primary liaison between the Office of the President and the institution at large. The Executive Assistant independently performs a wide range of complex administrative and operational duties requiring discretion, sound judgment, and in‑depth knowledge of institutional policies, procedures, and priorities. This role maintains the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism while fostering a cooperative, collaborative, and customer‑focused work environment, and ensuring clear, effective communication between the Office of the President, internal stakeholders, and the general public. Essential Functions Serves as the primary point of contact for the Office of the President, representing the President with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment. Manages complex calendars, communications, priorities, and deadlines involving highly sensitive and confidential matters. Anticipates the President's needs and proactively balances competing priorities to support strategic leadership. Researches, analyzes, and prepares reports, correspondence, and briefing materials; drafts communications for the President's signature. Coordinates and triages incoming issues and requests addressed to the President, determining appropriate action, referral, or response. Acts as a liaison between the President and faculty, staff, students, the Board of Trustees, public officials, advisory boards, and external constituents to promote effective communication and positive relations. Plans and coordinates meetings, Board activities, special events, and travel arrangements; processes related documentation and reimbursements. Oversee administrative operations of the President's Office, including records retention, document archiving and destruction, budget monitoring, invoices, purchasing, and office logistics. Assists with presidential oversight functions, including review and routing of personnel actions, correspondence, and institutional documents. Exercises independent judgment to resolve issues, advise others, and ensure continuity of operations in the President's absence. Maintains strict confidentiality of institutional, personnel, and student information in accordance with policy and law. Promotes a positive image of the institution through professional interaction with visitors and timely, accurate responses to inquiries. Contributes to a safe campus environment by participating in required training and emergency preparedness activities. Performs other duties as assigned by the President. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand such as Board of Trustee dinners and/or events, college events such as baccalaureate, graduation, convocation, etc. Travel No travel is expected for this position. Required Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business or related field of study. Three to five years' executive-level support experience.
