All Terminals Job Summary The Lead Trailer Mechanic is a senior-level, highly skilled mechanic responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, structural repairs, and complete rebuilds of trailer equipment. This position also assists in coordinating shop workflow, training mechanics, and supporting the Terminal Manager in maintaining productivity and safety standards. The Lead Trailer Mechanic primarily performs hands-on mechanical work and is not a management or exempt position. Essential Functions
  • Perform complex diagnostics, repairs, and rebuilds of all major trailer systems including air brake systems, suspension, axles, structural components, and landing gear.
  • Perform advanced fabrication, and structural repairs.
  • Complete body repairs.
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure full regulatory compliance.
  • Provide final inspection sign-off when authorized.
  • Train and mentor Level I, II, and III mechanics.
  • Assist with assignment of daily work priorities as directed by the Terminal Manager.
  • Review completed work to ensure quality and compliance with company standards.
  • Identify equipment, tooling, or repair needs and communicate recommendations to management.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and inspection records.
  • Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA, DOT, and company safety requirements.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices within the shop.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, or operational concerns to management.
  • Maintain professional conduct when interacting with coworkers, vendors, and customers.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the position.
  • Perform road calls using the service truck to provide assistance and support to drivers as needed. Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum ten (10) years verifiable trailer mechanic experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of trailer systems including brakes, suspension, structural components, and electrical systems.
  • Advanced fabrication experience required.
  • Experience with fiberglass and structural repair required.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior mechanics.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid California Driver License
  • Class A CDL preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to pass a ELP Exam (English Language Proficiency Exam) Tools & Equipment Mechanics may voluntarily provide personal hand tools.
If an employee chooses not to provide personal tools, Valley Farm Transport will provide the necessary tools required to perform assigned duties. Physical and Environmental Requirements Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs with assistance Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping Prolonged standing (8-12 hours) Work in shop and outdoor environments Exposure to noise, dust, diesel fumes Reasonable accommodation will be provided in accordance with applicable law. Work Schedule & Compensation Seasonal hours may vary based on operational needs. During peak operations or harvest periods, mechanics may be scheduled to work extended shifts, including up to twelve (12) hours per day and up to seven (7) consecutive days per workweek. All hours worked will be compensated in accordance with California wage and hour laws, including: Overtime after eight (8) hours in a workday Double time after twelve (12) hours in a workday Overtime after forty (40) hours in a workweek Overtime and/or double time applicable to the seventh (7th) consecutive day worked in a workweek Meal and rest periods will be provided in compliance with California law.
