TITLE:
Extended Learning Opportunities Coordinator•Portland High
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) Coordinator position is one of the positions under Portland Public Schools' Youth Development Program. Using research data and best practice, the ELO Coordinator is responsible for coordinating career readiness programs and activities for high school students. The ELO Coordinator works collaboratively with teachers, guidance counselors, and school administrators to coordinate services that will provide students curricular applications in the world of work.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide students with opportunities to explore their career interests and the world of work beyond the classroom through activities such as mock interviews, resume development, job shadowing, internships, and college essay writing Build capacity of the school to connect resources of private businesses and community assets to enrich the learning experiences of students Create innovative program of activities and structures to expand students' career awareness and readiness Collaborate with teachers and school staff to integrate career readiness into the school curriculum and classroom instruction Assist teachers and other educational staff in the implementation of the senior capstone requirement Network and outreach to potential businesses, volunteers, community-based organizations, parents, and other stakeholders to provide opportunities to expand students' learning experiences. Document and report program outcomes using identified metrics for success Participate in team meetings with Youth Development Coordinator, program advisory board, and community-based partners Collaborate with other staff within the Youth Development program to identify resources for the program, implement best practices, standards of operation, and protocols
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and relevant professional experience Experience working with youth, community-based organizations, businesses, social services and/or schools Experience developing and implementing career readiness programs Superior oral and written communication, leadership, and cultural competency skills Strong administrative skills Experience having worked with a high-performing, collaborative, and constructive peer group Demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity of outcomes for all students Preference will be given to candidates who have a proven track record of working successfully with diverse students, families, and staff
