Job Description
Maintenance Manager - Cold Storage, Trucks & Trailers Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance operations for our cold storage facility, trucks, trailers, refrigeration equipment, and general facility systems . This role is responsible for keeping equipment, vehicles, and building systems operating safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. The ideal candidate will have hands-on repair experience, strong troubleshooting skills, vendor management experience, and a solid understanding of preventive, corrective, emergency, and general maintenance practices . This person must be able to perform basic repairs directly, coordinate larger repairs through vendors, reduce downtime, and control maintenance costs. Key ResponsibilitiesFacility Maintenance Oversee maintenance of the cold storage warehouse, building systems, doors, docks, lighting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration systems, and general facility equipment. Monitor cold storage systems to help ensure proper temperatures are maintained. Respond quickly to maintenance issues that could affect food safety, product quality, operations, or employee safety. Perform basic repairs as needed, including minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, dock, door, and equipment repairs. Inspect facility equipment regularly and identify issues before they become major problems. Truck, Trailer & Refrigeration Maintenance Manage maintenance and repair needs for company trucks, trailers, refrigerated trailers, and related equipment. Coordinate repairs for reefer units, trailers, liftgates, brakes, tires, lights, doors, seals, and other fleet components. Ensure trucks and trailers are safe, road-ready, and compliant with applicable inspection and maintenance requirements. Track recurring vehicle and trailer issues and recommend long-term repair or replacement solutions. Vendor Management Source, schedule, and manage outside vendors for specialized repairs and service. Obtain quotes, compare pricing, review invoices, and ensure vendors complete work properly and on time. Build relationships with reliable vendors while holding them accountable for quality, cost, and response time. Manage emergency service calls when needed while controlling unnecessary expenses. Preventive Maintenance & Cost Control Develop, maintain, and improve preventive maintenance programs for facility equipment, refrigeration systems, trucks, and trailers. Track maintenance costs, repair history, parts usage, vendor invoices, and equipment downtime. Identify ways to reduce maintenance expenses without sacrificing safety or reliability. Recommend equipment upgrades, replacement plans, and process improvements to reduce breakdowns. Maintain inventory of commonly used parts, tools, and supplies. Safety & Compliance Ensure maintenance work is performed safely and in compliance with company policies. Support compliance with OSHA, DOT, food safety, refrigeration, and environmental requirements where applicable. Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection logs, repair documentation, and service schedules. Ensure contractors and vendors follow site safety rules while working on company property. Team & Operations Support Work closely with warehouse, transportation, operations, and management teams to prioritize maintenance needs. Communicate repair status, downtime risks, and cost concerns clearly to leadership. Train or guide employees on proper equipment use and basic maintenance awareness when needed. Be available for urgent maintenance issues, including after-hours emergencies when necessary. Required Qualifications Prior experience in maintenance management, facility maintenance, fleet maintenance, refrigeration, cold storage, or a similar role. Hands-on ability to perform basic repairs and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, facility, and equipment issues. Experience working with trucks, trailers, refrigerated trailers, or fleet equipment preferred. Knowledge of cold storage facilities, refrigeration systems, dock equipment, warehouse equipment, and building systems. Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, emergency maintenance, and general repair practices. Ability to manage vendors, review quotes, control repair costs, and verify completed work. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Ability to prioritize urgent issues and manage multiple repair projects at once. Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking, email, spreadsheets, and vendor communication. Valid driver's license preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience with reefer units, refrigeration systems, HVAC, forklifts, dock doors, compressors, trailers, and warehouse equipment. Knowledge of DOT vehicle maintenance requirements. Experience using maintenance management software or fleet maintenance tracking systems. Forklift, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, or mechanical certifications are a plus. Experience in food distribution, cold storage, transportation, logistics, or warehouse operations. Ability to respond to urgent maintenance needs in a fast-paced operation. Work Schedule This position may require flexibility based on operational needs, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or emergency after-hours calls. Pay:
