JOB SUMMARY
The Facilities Maintenance Lead is responsible for ensuring the functionality, safety, and reliability of Adak Island Inn facilities, equipment, and housing units. In addition to performing hands on maintenance and mechanical work, this position provides on island leadership for maintenance activities, plans and prioritizes work, and coordinates projects to support hotel operations in a remote Aleutian environment. This role leads daily maintenance execution, preventive maintenance planning, and small to medium repair and remodel projects while working closely with the Hotel Manager and Aleut Ventures leadership.
Primary Responsibilities Champion Aleut values:
accountability, transparency and rigor. Serve as the on island lead for maintenance activities at Adak Island Inn. Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance work based on guest needs, unit readiness, and seasonal conditions. Coordinate daily and longer term maintenance priorities with the Hotel Manager. Provide guidance, task direction, and oversight to maintenance staff or laborers when assigned. Identify repair scopes, develop work plans, and estimate materials and labor required. Communicate larger repair needs, risks, and project timelines clearly to management. Provide continued maintenance support to the Adak Island Inn to ensure housing units are functional, safe, and guest ready. Perform general plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) repairs. Inspect building systems and equipment to identify problems or emerging issues. Conduct preventive maintenance to ensure plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and heating systems operate reliably. Perform carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring repairs, and minor construction as required. Address weather related risks such as freezing, corrosion, and wind damage. Conduct routine and seasonal inspections of units, mechanical systems, and common areas. Coordinate winterization and de winterization of units. Identify preventive maintenance needs and schedule work to reduce emergency repairs. Maintain basic maintenance records and inspection documentation. Maintain and repair vehicles, tools, and equipment as needed. Troubleshoot mechanical or engine performance issues, recommend repair or replacement, and assist with cost estimates. Conduct routine and annual maintenance on equipment and systems. Clean, service, and lubricate machinery components as required. Follow all Aleut Ventures policies, procedures, and job specific health and safety requirements. Ensure safe work practices and proper use of PPE. Identify unsafe conditions and take corrective action promptly. Track and maintain inventory of frequently used maintenance tools, parts, and supplies. Coordinate with management on inventory needs and shipping requirements, accounting for Adak's limited logistics windows. Support planning for projects requiring advance material staging. Support remodels, capital projects, and special maintenance initiatives. Assist other Aleut Ventures operations in Adak when maintenance expertise is required. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC/heating, and general construction. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Proven ability to troubleshoot, plan repairs, and complete work independently. Skill in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.) Strong interpersonal skills to interact in a team environment and foster positive relationships. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work effectively in a diverse and multicultural environment. Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays. Willingness to work in all weather conditions. Minimum Qualifications 5+ years of facilities maintenance or mechanical experience. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Current Alaska drivers license. Preferred Qualifications Prior lead, supervisor, or project coordination experience. Experience working in remote or rural Alaska environments. Experience working a rotational schedule. Familiarity with preventive maintenance planning.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is a physically demanding role requiring regular lifting, carrying, and movement. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Work may be performed in outdoor and indoor environments, sometimes in inclement weather. Extended hours or urgent response may be required to support guest operations.
