Job Title:
Facilities Technician Job Description This role serves as a Facilities Technician responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of building systems across a multi-building campus. You will lead and support the daily operation, maintenance, and reliability of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems while helping to ensure maximum uptime of all building infrastructure. The position typically follows a Monday-Friday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with some flexibility and includes participation in a rotating on-call schedule (one week per month) for after-hours and weekend support. Responsibilities Oversee the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of building systems, including refrigeration, water cooling, air conditioning equipment, boilers, heating, ventilating, hot water systems, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment. Review equipment logs regularly to verify proper operation and promptly report any issues, problems, or malfunctions as needed. Perform preventive maintenance tasks on building systems and equipment according to established schedules and reliability-based maintenance practices. Oversee repair and preventive maintenance activities for HVAC systems, including determining appropriate repair frequency and preventive maintenance intervals. Implement and manage reliability-based maintenance functions to improve overall mechanical equipment uptime and ensure systems perform their intended function. Execute equipment inspection and monitoring programs and continuously evaluate maintenance operations and reliability methods to enhance performance and value. Protect and improve the value of the facilities by ensuring building engineering systems operate safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Ensure the availability and proper management of tools, parts, and supplies required to operate and maintain the buildings, including preparing and submitting purchase requests, developing sources for stock materials, and performing periodic inventory checks. Inspect equipment and infrastructure conditions regularly and take action to address deficiencies or potential failures. Oversee and coordinate the work of contractors operating within the buildings, whether engaged by the facility or by tenants, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with site standards. Identify, report, and help remediate safety hazards within the building to ensure a safe environment for staff and occupants. Implement, administer, and manage safety training programs for the engineering and facilities team. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory laws and guidelines related to building infrastructure and operations, and promptly alert management to any discrepancies. Maintain all required infrastructure and compliance documentation, including current building drawings, single-line diagrams, and records mandated by Federal, State, or Local regulations. Provide training and mentorship to team members by demonstrating proper use and care of tools and instruments, delivering hands-on instruction in basic maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures, and recommending relevant external engineering courses. Promote and uphold a high level of professionalism in both conduct and appearance within the engineering team. Deliver consistent, high-quality internal and external customer service, responding to building occupant needs in a timely and professional manner. Utilize CMMS software (such as Corrigo) and other technology tools to log work orders, track maintenance activities, manage preventive maintenance schedules, and maintain accurate records. Use Microsoft Office 365 and related applications to prepare reports, maintain documentation, and communicate with stakeholders. Perform any other related duties and tasks assigned in support of facilities operations and building engineering objectives. Essential Skills Approximately 5 years of facility-related work experience, including experience in customer service, leadership, and supervisory responsibilities. Experience in building maintenance with hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Demonstrated experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, and preventive maintenance within a multi-building or campus environment. Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes and best practices, including reliability-based maintenance. Experience with electrical troubleshooting and industrial maintenance up to 480V, including 50V-180V-480V systems. Practical experience with HVAC systems, fluid handling and pumping systems, fluid filtering, and mechanical systems. Exposure to welding and electrical systems engineering and operation. Proficiency in using CMMS systems (such as Corrigo) for managing maintenance activities. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and other common computer applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills with a record of providing excellent internal and external customer service. Ability to understand aspects of construction planning and execution related to building systems and infrastructure. Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment. Valid HVAC and EPA certifications. Valid electrical certifications appropriate for facilities and building maintenance work. Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hours and weekend issues as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working as maintenance technician in a campus environment with multiple buildings. Hands-on experience with plumbing systems in commercial or industrial facilities. Familiarity with CRM or similar systems for tracking requests and service activities. Experience leading or mentoring other technicians or engineering staff. Ability to train others on maintenance procedures, safety practices, and proper use of tools and equipment. Strong organizational skills for managing inventory, tools, and supplies. Attention to detail in maintaining accurate building drawings, single-line diagrams, and regulatory documentation. Comfort working with a variety of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing tools and test equipment. Certifications beyond the required HVAC, EPA, or electrical credentials are considered a plus but are not mandatory. Why Work Here? The role includes participation in a rotating on-call schedule, generally one week per month, covering after-hours and weekend issues; on-call time includes a minimum of four hours' compensation even if the actual response time is shorter, in accordance with internal policies. The work environment involves a mix of mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, and general building areas where you will interact with HVAC systems, boilers, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment. You will regularly use CMMS software (such as Corrigo), Microsoft Office 365, and other digital tools to manage work orders and documentation. The setting requires adherence to safety procedures and use of appropriate personal protective equipment when working around electrical systems up to 480V and other building infrastructure. Dress is typically practical and appropriate for facilities and maintenance work, with an emphasis on safety, professionalism, and readiness to move between office, mechanical, and field environments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of El Paso, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr.
