Non-Exempt Position Description:
The Facility Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving facility systems and production support equipment within a food manufacturing environment. This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, refrigeration, and building systems while maintaining compliance with California safety regulations, food safety standards, and company policies. The ideal candidate has strong industrial maintenance experience, knowledge of food manufacturing practices, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on facility and production support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and plumbing systems.
  • Maintain boilers, compressors, HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, pumps, conveyors, motors, and other plant utilities.
  • Inspect facility systems to identify operational issues, safety hazards, or equipment failures.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests to minimize any inconvenience to office personnel.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and work orders.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and minor carpentry or construction repairs as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety requirements including GMPs, SQF, HACCP, and sanitation standards.
  • Follow all California OSHA (Cal/OSHA) regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and workplace safety policies.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage accurately in maintenance management systems.
  • Where applicable, the role will also participate in and support food safety and quality activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and established standards. This includes adhering to proper handling, storage, sanitation, monitoring, documentation, and reporting procedures to maintain product safety, quality, and operational integrity.
  • Coordinate with maintenance manager to schedule repairs and minimize disruptions.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance tools, equipment, and spare parts.
  • Assist with facility improvement projects, equipment installations, and contractor oversight.
  • Complete all compliance training (e.g., sexual harassment, workplace violence, active shooter) and department focused training (e.g., lockout tagout)
  • Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, industry standards, and food safety regulations (e.g., GMP, FDA, USDA, HACCP).
  • Use of visual, auditory or special protective equipment (e.g., hairnet, beard net (if applicable), and gloves)
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
  • Identify and correct hazards; comply with all safety policies and best practices.
  • Maintain clean and organized maintenance work areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and facility maintenance practices.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills include controls and sensors.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding equipment safely.
  • Familiarity with CMMS software and preventative maintenance programs preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to continuously lift and carry up to 50lbs regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • 3+ years of experience in facility maintenance, wastewater dynamics, welding, impression and compressions.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with fluctuating temperatures and noise levels.
  • Maintain company attendance standards.
  • Flexible work schedule (e.
g., weekends, holidays, and overtime) as needed.
Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or food production environment preferred.
  • Welding Certification or equivalent experience is a plus
  • Forklift certified is a plus
  • AC knowledge and experience in troubleshooting
  • HVAC Certification is a plus
  • Boiler Certification is a plus
Pay:
$35.00 - $40.00 per hour
