Job Description
Saratoga Chocolate Co. is an award-winning artisan chocolate company with a retail café in Saratoga Springs and a production facility in North River. We are seeking a hands-on Factory Manager & Production Lead to take ownership of daily production, workflow, and inventory at our North River facility. This is a working leadership role—you will be actively involved in chocolate production while also planning, organizing, and ensuring the factory runs smoothly and efficiently every day. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in getting things done right, and is ready to take real ownership of outcomes. Position Overview The Factory Manager & Production Lead is responsible for ensuring the factory consistently produces the right products, in the right quantities, at the right time—without last-minute emergencies.
This role combines:
Hands-on production (2-3 days per week) Production planning and workflow management (2-3 days per week) You will be the primary point of accountability for: production output inventory readiness coordination with the Saratoga Springs shop Core Responsibilities Production Leadership (Primary Responsibility) Plan and execute weekly production based on shop needs, wholesale orders, and inventory levels Ensure all core products are produced on schedule and ready for sale Step into production as needed (tempering, molding, batching, packaging, etc.) Maintain consistent product quality and production standards Daily Operations & Workflow Lead a brief daily production huddle to set priorities and assign tasks Keep the team focused, productive, and on track throughout the day Adjust workflow in real time based on staffing, equipment, or demand Ensure a clean, organized, and efficient work environment Inventory & Production Readiness Track raw materials, packaging, and finished goods Maintain accurate inventory levels and organized storage systems Proactively identify low stock and coordinate reordering Ensure the factory is always prepared for upcoming demand Coordination with Saratoga Shop Serve as the primary communication link between factory and retail Ensure the shop is stocked with core products ahead of demand Communicate clearly about production timelines, shortages, or delays Prevent last-minute emergencies and stockouts whenever possible Planning & Seasonal Execution Anticipate needs for holidays, events, and seasonal peaks Build production plans that support business growth Understand how decisions impact retail, wholesale, and fulfillment Systems, Organization & Reporting Maintain production schedules, inventory records, and ordering systems Print labels, manage documentation, and keep shared files organized Provide regular updates on production status and operational issues Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and workflow What Success Looks Like The factory runs smoothly without constant owner involvement Production is planned and predictable—not reactive Core products are consistently in stock Inventory is accurate and organized The shop is supported without last-minute scrambling Problems are identified and solved early Qualifications We are looking for someone who is: Highly reliable and accountable- shows up, follows through, and takes ownership Hands-on and hardworking
