The Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that prepares students for college, career, and life readiness. Instruction is based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Family and Consumer Sciences pathways. The teacher supports student development in areas such as nutrition and wellness, child development, interpersonal relationships, personal finance, housing and interior design, apparel and textiles, and hospitality and tourism, while integrating real-world, career-focused learning experiences.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with NC CTE Family and Consumer Sciences standards and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Teach courses within FCS pathways, such as: Food and Nutrition / Culinary Arts Early Childhood Development Apparel and Textile Production Interior Design Personal Finance and Consumer Education Human Development and Family Studies Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learner needs. Integrate academic, technical, and employability skills into instruction. Incorporate hands-on, project-based, and real-world learning experiences. Classroom Management Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment. Manage student behavior consistent with school and district policies. Promote student engagement and accountability. Assessment & Data Use Develop and administer formative and summative assessments. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to improve outcomes. Maintain accurate grades, records, and documentation in compliance with district requirements. Program & Student Support Advise and support student participation in FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America). Promote career awareness and workforce readiness skills. Support student career pathways aligned with CTE programming. Collaborate with school staff, families, and community partners. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development aligned with NC DPI and district expectations. Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices and student achievement. Follow all North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards and the Code of Ethics for North Carolina Educators. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education or related field. North Carolina teaching license in CTE Family and Consumer Sciences or eligible to obtain the required license. Strong content knowledge in FCS subject areas. Knowledge ofNC DPI CTE
standards and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Preferred Prior teaching or industry experience in FCS-related fields. Experience with Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO), especially FCCLA. Classroom management and curriculum development experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Understanding of adolescent development and instructional best practices. Ability to integrate academic, technical, and life skills instruction. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners. Proficiency with instructional technology and data systems. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, move about the classroom, and actively supervise students. Occasional lifting of instructional materials and classroom supplies. Ability to perform duties in a typical school environment. Work Environment Standard public school classroom setting. May include lab-based instruction (culinary, textiles, or early childhood labs). Exposure to moderate noise levels and active student environments. Physical Requirements:
Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.Data Conception:

Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.Motor Coordination:
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately when using office equipment.Manual Dexterity:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.Color Discrimination:
Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.Interpersonal Temperament:
