Family Law Attorney Family Law Attorney Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Family Law Attorney to join our firm. The attorney will represent clients in matters including divorce, child custody, spousal support, domestic violence protection, and adoption. The role combines courtroom advocacy, negotiation, and client counseling to achieve favorable outcomes while maintaining the highest ethical standards and sensitivity to family dynamics. Key Responsibilities Provide legal counsel and representation to clients in family law matters such as divorce, separation, child custody and visitation, spousal support, property division, domestic violence protection orders, and adoption. Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and other legal documents; ensure all filings meet court rules and deadlines. Prepare clients for hearings and trials, conduct legal research, and develop case strategies tailored to each clients needs. Advocate for clients in court, at mediation, arbitration, and during settlement negotiations; present evidence and examine witnesses effectively. Conduct client intake, gather relevant facts and documentation, maintain accurate and confidential case files, and provide clear updates to clients on case status and options. Work collaboratively with paralegals, investigators, and other attorneys to build cases, including coordinating discovery and preparing exhibits. Provide risk assessment and guidance on potential outcomes, custody evaluations, parenting plans, and financial settlements. Handle sensitive and high-conflict situations with professionalism, trauma-informed practice, and respect for client safety, particularly in domestic violence cases. Participate in community outreach and resources referral, collaborate with social services and other support organizations when appropriate. Stay current on family law developments, attend continuing legal education, and contribute to firm practice improvements. Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and current admission to the state bar in good standing. 3+ years of experience practicing family law preferred; candidates with relevant clerkship or internship experience will be considered. Proven experience handling divorce, child custody, spousal support, domestic violence protection orders, and adoption cases. Strong litigation and negotiation skills with demonstrated courtroom experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, client counseling ability, and compassionate interpersonal manner. Familiarity with family court procedures, local rules, caselaw, and evidence practice; skilled in drafting pleadings and settlement agreements. Ability to manage a caseload independently, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain meticulous case files. Comfortable working with vulnerable clients; knowledge of trauma-informed practices and community resources is a plus. Proficiency with legal research tools, case management software, and Microsoft Office; willingness to learn firm-specific systems. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation if required for client meetings or court appearances.
