Farm Equipment Operator

Tenmile Farm Foundation is seeking an equipment operator for our 100-acre vegetable and fruit farm in Dover Plains, New York. Responsibilities Work with farm manager to implement, manage and participate in our produce operation: seeding; cultivation and field prep; transplanting; weed and pest management; and harvesting Use mechanized farm equipment for tillage, cultivation, and harvest Ensure all Tenmile vehicles, tractors and farm equipment are fully operational and in good working order to support the farm's essential operations Conduct routine inspections and required repair of all Tenmile tractors and farm equipment. Monitor and be accountable for the progress of all mechanized field work Train and work alongside the farm crew as needed to ensure timely completion of daily tasks Ensure accurate record-keeping, for all farm equipment including time in use, service and maintenance schedules, and repair expenses Maintain equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment Operate all equipment in a safe and responsible manner Support the farm manager to ensure efficient agricultural operations. Work cooperatively with members of the farm team and share knowledge of farm equipment. Willing to perform other duties as needed and work cooperatively with members of the farm team Qualifications A minimum of 2 years of experience farming for commercial markets on 10 acres or more Demonstrated knowledge of "best" farming practices including crop rotation, cover cropping, composting, IPM, and soil fertility management Demonstrated ability to safely operate tractors and other farm equipment Experience with mechanical planting and harvesting Comfortable working with databases or farm data software Ability to lead, work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and capacity to adapt to operational challenges Valid driver's license This position offers the successful candidate a leadership opportunity to work on a state-of-the-art farm and have a significant impact addressing food insecurity in NYC and the Hudson Valley.
