Job Title:
Field Operations Manager (Excavation & Foundations) •Clear driving record for 3 years- no suspensions, no major violations per insurance•Position Summary The Field Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all field activities related to excavation, site preparation, and foundation construction projects. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with company standards, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong construction operations expertise, particularly in earthwork and structural foundations. Key Responsibilities Operations & Project Execution Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily field operations for excavation and foundation projects. Manage multiple job sites simultaneously, ensuring alignment with project schedules and budgets. Interpret and execute project plans, blueprints, and specifications. Monitor production rates and adjust staffing, equipment, and methods to optimize efficiency. Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure smooth project delivery and resolve field issues proactively. Team Leadership & Supervision Supervise field supervisors, foremen, operators, and labor crews. Provide clear direction, training, and performance feedback to field personnel. Foster a strong team culture focused on accountability, safety, and productivity. Assist with hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning. Safety & Compliance Enforce all company and OSHA safety standards on site. Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and local/state requirements. Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions. Equipment & Resource Management Oversee utilization, maintenance, and allocation of heavy equipment Coordinate equipment needs with fleet and maintenance teams. Monitor material usage and coordinate deliveries to maintain schedule flow. Quality Control Ensure all work meets quality standards, engineering requirements, and client expectations. Conduct site inspections and verify proper excavation depth, grading, compaction, and foundation preparation. Address rework issues and maintain high-quality output. Client & Stakeholder Communication Serve as the primary field contact for clients, inspectors, and subcontractors. Attend project meetings and provide updates on progress, challenges, and solutions. Maintain strong relationships with general contractors, developers, and vendors. Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma required; degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred. 10+ years of experience in excavation, grading, or foundation construction. 5+ years in a supervisory or management role. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of earthwork, site development, trenching, and foundation systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, grading plans, and geotechnical reports. Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Viewpoint, or similar). Understanding of GPS machine control and layout technology preferred. Leadership & Soft Skills Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Effective communication and organizational skills. Ability to work in fast-paced, changing environments. Certifications (Preferred) OSHA 30 Certification CDL (or ability to obtain) First Aid/CPR Certification Working Conditions Primarily field-based with frequent travel between job sites. Exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions. Physically demanding at times, including walking job sites and interacting with heavy equipment operations.
