Field Service Engineer - Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Hitachi Energy United States, Pennsylvania, Mount Pleasant 100 Distribution Circle (Show on map) May 18, 2026 The Opportunity As a Field Service Engineer supporting Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), you work directly at customer substations and power facilities across the United States, providing technical support throughout all phases of project execution, including installation, commissioning, testing, acceptance, and handover. This is a USbased field service role focused on handson engineering work with High Voltage GIS equipment in active operating environments. You support multiple customer sites based on service demand, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, and coordinate onsite activities to ensure safe and reliable operation of critical power infrastructure. Your work contributes to grid reliability, safety, and modernization across the US transmission and substation landscape, while offering broad exposure to GIS systems and customerfacing service work within the power industry. How You'll Make an Impact Provide technical support throughout all phases of GIS project execution, including installation, commissioning, testing, acceptance, and handover Provide onsite supervision for the installation and commissioning of GIS substations Manage troubleshooting efforts involving field personnel and subcontractors Support and oversee contracted maintenance activities to ensure work is completed effectively Maintain detailed site documentation, including operational procedures, performance reports, test data, and equipment manuals Coordinate and communicate with internal teams, subcontractors, and customers to support smooth site execution Work closely with customers onsite to support service outcomes and satisfaction Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, vehicles, materials, and supplies at job sites Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines. Your Background Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States. Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline preferred but not mandatory Minimum 2-4 years of relevant experience in engineering and/or construction environments, preferably within the power industry Sound understanding of electrical and mechanical equipment Effective interpersonal and communication skills for field and customerfacing work Ability to manage teams and address onsite conflict situations Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Microsoft Project Fluent English language skills; additional European languages beneficial More About Us Working in Hitachi Energy's US High Voltage Service organization provides handson exposure to advanced GIS technology, complex field service environments, and collaboration with experienced professionals supporting the US power grid.
