Field Service Machinist

Overview The Field Machinist /Welder is responsible for fabricating and repairing components in the field and customer sites. Responsibilities Maintenance and operation of a variety of field machining equipment, including services such as pipe beveling and cutting, line boring, flange facing, among other creative applications. Read prints, viewing dimensions and samples to repair and/or assemble metal parts. Assemble all components with the help of power and hand tools. Re-machine parts to repair and maintains critical dimensions. Use stationary and portable boring equipment and machine tools as well as multiple other types of tooling to meet specific job needs. Aligning gear cases and motors. Heat treating parts as required. Testing the hardness of materials. Demonstrate the ability to use N.D.T (Magnetic particle and die penetrant). Inspects completed work to determine structural soundness and fit to mechanical part. Ensure proper dimensions, compliance and tolerance levels of finished product is defect free. Cleans and maintains portable machining and welding equipment. Complete all job responsibilities while adhering to all safety protocols. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. 3+ years of experience working on heavy equipment required. Valid driver's license and a safe driving record, must also possess a valid CDL license. Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and proper repair procedures is required. Must be able to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, operating and maintenance service manuals. Possess knowledge in various areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, and hydraulics. Must have a complete set of tools capable of working in and around heavy equipment. Must be proficient in welding and cutting of all types Possess a proficient understanding of metallurgy and its application to machining Able to operate forklifts, overhead cranes and earthmoving equipment is a plus Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills are required. Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, organization and ability to prioritize tasks is required. Possess strong problem solving skills, have the ability to set and keep priorities and be able to handle stress associated with a fast paced environment and deadlines.

Working Conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to injury and/or hazardous materials. Job requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting. Physical use of a broad variety of tools and machines in order to maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment. Must be able to lift varied weight. Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities. Use of computer and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
