Destination Puerto Rico is searching for a professional, responsible, driven individual to lead our Accounting Department. Principal Functions:
The Accountant is primarily responsible for supervising and performing accounting procedures in the areas of accounts receivables, accounts payable, payroll and the general ledger, as well as presenting management with accurate and timely interim (monthly) and yearly financial reports. Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Accounts Receivables Safeguard all company revenues by implementing and following good cash management procedures (frequent deposits; timely analysis of bank transactions and monthly reconciliations; monitor investment of excess cash in low-risk instruments) Oversee customer billing prepared by other departments Monitor aging of accounts receivables, follow up on outstanding balances due from customers and handle collections of difficult accounts Accounts Payables Oversee all cash disbursements (monitor accuracy of all invoices paid to suppliers; analyze correctness of all company purchases of supplies, equipment and services) Oversee timely payments to suppliers; correct recording of invoices and payments; recording of expenses for unbilled purchases and services in correct period Perform monthly retail and B2B IVU calculations to determine sales tax deposits Payroll Prepare quarterly payroll tax returns (Chauffeurs' SS, FICA, Income Tax, SUTA, SINOT) Prepare annual payroll tax returns (FUTA, CFSE) Oversee preparation of yearend informative returns to employees (499R-2) and suppliers (480.6A & B) Annual review of the employee medical/dental plan options Perform yearly tasks related to employee retirement plan (annual census data, analyze reports, handle distributions to employees) General Ledger Performs detailed monthly audit and analysis of all general ledger accounts to verify: Inclusion of all income and expenses in correct period and departments Inclusion of all electronic transactions Changes in non-current assets and liabilities That cash, receivable and payable accounts are in balance with respective statements and subsidiaries for the period
Other Accounting Functions:
Implement, document, maintain and ensure compliance with accounting controls and procedures Assist senior management with renewal of insurance policies Assist senior management with special projects Support the internal and external audit process of the firm
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct supervision of any individual assigned to support in the following areas: Account Receivables Bank Accounts / Deposits Accounts Payable Utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others Leads by example
Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Major in Accounting 5+ years of experience in management level accounting position in a fast paced environment References from previous employment Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English Supervisory skills with the ability to maximize performance and morale Analytical skills; ability to solve problems and deliver results Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities and simultaneous projects Proficient in Outlook, Excel and Accounting Software such as CYMA Ability to work under pressure with seasonal increase in workload in fast paced environment Advocates sound financial/business decision making Demonstrates honesty, integrity and loyalty The ideal candidate must possess strategic thinking with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus Destination Puerto Rico is an equal opportunity employer.
