Job Description

Summary:
Under the direction of the Finance Manager, this position will perform accounting and financial functions according to established policies and procedures. The Senior Staff Accountant will assume a leadership role in guiding Staff Accountants in daily tasks and compliance with the finance policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day supervision of Staff Accounts and other staff as assigned. Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. Prepare and record for approval asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies for approval. Maintain the general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing trial balance, and reconciling entries for approval. Summarize financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss, and other statements for approval. Avoid legal challenges by complying with legal requirements. Protect Chugachmiut's value by keeping information confidential. Oversee the Chugachmiut Tribal Accounting Services program and adhere to the requirements of each agreement executed between Chugachmiut and the regional tribe. Assists with audit preparation and year-end close for the annual financial statement and single audits for state and federal programs. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field, Master's degree preferred. Six years of progressively responsible work experience in finance, three years of which were in a management position.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of current generally accepted accounting practices and principles for non-profit organizations. Knowledge of grant reporting processes and procedures. Knowledge of QuickBooks online is preferred but not required. Knowledge of the Third-Party Revenue Cycle is preferred but not required. Knowledge of IRS requirements and procedures. Knowledge of payroll processes and procedures. Ability to work as a team member to ensure proficient accounting services. Ability to maintain sustained attention to detail and work under pressure. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks concurrently. Ability to work independently from general instructions and broad work expectations. Ability to communicate detailed information to widely diverse individuals in a clear, concise, courteous manner to present a positive image of Chugachmiut. Knowledge of computer-based financial and accounting systems. Skill in entering data into a computer accurately and efficiently.
Hours of Work:
The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., with one hour for lunch. Chugachmiut maintains a drug/alcohol and non-smoking work environment.
