Job Title:
Senior Accountant Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to assist with accounting operations for a diverse company that focuses on agriculture research, hospitality and commercial real estate. This role requires a strong understanding of nonprofit and property management accounting, financial statement preparation and analysis, and day-to-day accounting processes. The Opportunity Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accountant plays a critical role in shaping and managing the financial infrastructure that enables sustainability of the organization's mission and growth strategy. This role is part of a succession plan as our current Controller approaches retirement. Key Responsibilities Commercial Real Estate Accounting Manage full-cycle accounting for commercial real estate properties, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, receivables and payables. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple properties. Monitor property-level budgets and assist with variance analysis. Coordinate with the Property Manager to ensure accurate financial reporting. Assist the Property Manager with the design and distribution of monthly investor reports. Payroll Administration Process and manage payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Maintain payroll records, deductions, and benefits administration. Coordinate with the Controller on employee changes. Prepare payroll-related reports and filings. General Accounting Duties Assist with month-end and year-end close processes. Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed. Prepare and file sales tax and other regulatory filings. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Support special projects and process improvement initiatives. Other • Manage fuel inventory and ordering. • Compile tractor use data for cost allocations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. 5+ years of accounting experience (knowledge of non-profit and commercial real estate accounting is preferred). Experience in processing payroll and knowledge of state and federal employment laws. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles. Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication. Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
