Position Summary Quality Testing is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Project Accountant to oversee project accounting, billing, accounts payable, payroll support, and financial reporting activities for our growing organization. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate project costing, timely client invoicing, payroll review, and financial reporting. The Project Accountant will supervise a small accounting support team and work closely with project managers, operations staff, and executive leadership to ensure project financial data is accurate, complete, and actionable. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong analytical abilities, excellent organizational skills, leadership experience, and a solid understanding of project accounting within the construction, engineering, testing, or professional services industries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Project Accounting & Financial Management Manage project accounting functions from project setup through project closeout. Review and reconcile project cost data, labor charges, expense allocations, and cost codes. Monitor project budgets, labor utilization, and project profitability. Analyze project financial performance and identify discrepancies or trends requiring management attention. Work directly with project managers and department leaders to ensure accurate project financial reporting. Prepare project-related financial reports and management summaries. Billing & Accounts Receivable Oversee preparation and submission of accurate client invoices. Review contract terms and billing requirements to ensure compliance. Manage monthly billing cycles and monitor unbilled revenue. Assist with collection efforts and follow up on outstanding receivables. Resolve client billing discrepancies and payment issues. Payroll & Labor Administration Review payroll information for accuracy and completeness. Verify employee labor allocations, project charging, mileage logs, expense reports, and timesheet submissions. Assist with payroll processing and serve as a key resource for payroll-related questions. Ensure labor costs are accurately assigned to projects and cost codes. Accounts Payable & Expense Management Oversee accounts payable activities and accounting support staff. Review vendor invoices, coding, approvals, and payment processing. Ensure proper allocation of expenses to projects and departments. Review company credit card transactions, employee reimbursements, mileage logs, and expense reports. Leadership & Team Development Provide daily guidance and oversight to accounting support staff. Assist with training, process improvements, and workload management. Establish accountability for deadlines, accuracy, and customer service. Support the Controller and management team with departmental initiatives and special projects. General Accounting Principles/GAAP Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities. Prepare account reconciliations and journal entries. Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation. Support audits and financial reporting requirements. Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in project accounting, construction accounting, engineering, consulting or professional services environments. Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred. Strong understanding of project costing, job cost accounting, labor allocations, and billing processes. Experience with accounts payable, payroll review, accounts receivable, and reconciliations. Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with ERP or accounting systems; Deltek experience is highly desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Professional demeanor and dependable attendance. Preferred Experience Engineering, consulting, construction, or professional services accounting experience. Project-based accounting environment. Multi-company or intercompany accounting experience.
