This role supports financial planning and operational decision-making by preparing detailed cost reports, monitoring cost trends, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and process improvements. The Cost Accountant ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains compliance with GAAP and SOX requirements, and collaborates cross-functionally to support overall business performance. Duties Responsible for the monthly Cost Accounting close, including inventory and cost of goods journal entries, work order closures, and standard and adjusting journal entries. Prepare and issue periodic cost accounting variance analyses (i.e., material, labor, purchase price variance, etc.) and reports (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual). Prepare a variety of financial and cost reports, including ad-hoc and standard month-end reports; conduct quarterly standard cost rolls and inventory valuation analyses. Publish appropriate commentary or explanations relating to reported items of particular interest or significance; initiate and conduct investigations of account and cost variances; prepare customer audit reports as required. Assist Operations Management (e.g., General Manager, Supply Chain Manager) with the preparation, reporting, and management of At-Risk and Overstock Inventory (billable and non-billable). Provide assistance with monthly forecasting, balance sheet reconciliations, and the annual budget process. Assist with annual (and/or as required) physical inventory counts and valuation analysis; drive the monitoring and clearing of unvouchered accounts payable. Communicate clear and concise information and commentary regarding cost and variance reports; investigate and resolve discrepancies such as Actual vs. Standard labor and material variances, PPV, and KPI reporting. Develop and implement special projects and financial analyses as directed by plant and financial management, resulting in process improvement recommendations. Serve as a driver of continuous improvement by generating recommendations based on cost variance results and overall plant performance metrics. Actively participate in cross-functional process improvement teams and initiatives as assigned. Maintain a thorough understanding of financial transactions within the
SAGE/ERP
system and ensure data integrity. Work independently and collaboratively with all levels of the organization, from production personnel to executive management. Adhere to all plant safety and health requirements; support and monitor compliance with GAAP and SOX standards. Perform other duties as assigned.
