Independent Contractor (1099)•Full-Time Hours Initially, with potential transition to part-time/half-time after stabilization period Overview Golden Valley Seed is seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) on a contract (1099) basis to urgently support and stabilize our accounting operations. This role will focus on tax reporting, financial cleanup, and correcting existing accounting records. We are specifically seeking a CPA with proven experience cleaning up messy, disorganized, or inaccurate accounting records—not just maintaining already well-managed books. This engagement will begin with full-time hours to address immediate needs, with the possibility of transitioning to a reduced schedule (half-time) after the initial cleanup and stabilization phase. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review federal and California state tax filings Analyze and reconcile inaccurate or incomplete accounting records Lead cleanup and reconstruction of accounting records, including identifying errors and correcting discrepancies Clean up and correct general ledger discrepancies Ensure compliance with GAAP and tax regulations Review historical financials and identify errors or risks Support audits and respond to tax authority inquiries if needed Recommend improvements to accounting processes and controls Required Qualifications Active CPA license Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience Proven experience cleaning up messy or unreliable books (e.g., unreconciled accounts, prior-period corrections, incomplete records) Ability to quickly diagnose accounting issues and implement corrective action plans Deep knowledge of tax reporting and compliance Experience with accounting systems (Pilot is the software used) Bilingual (English/Spanish required) Ability to work independently and meet urgent deadlines Preferred Qualifications Experience with small to mid-sized businesses Prior experience fixing historical accounting issues Familiarity with California tax regulations Must-Have Experience (Non-Negotiable) Hands-on experience fixing broken or inaccurate accounting systems Experience taking over books that were behind, incorrect, or not audit-ready Ability to bring records to a clean, compliant, and reportable state Immediate Priority Candidate must be able to start quickly Expected to begin reviewing current records promptly and provide an initial assessment and recommended next steps within the first 1-2 weeks, depending on the condition of the records Compensation Hourly contract rate: [$28/hour ] This is a 1099 independent contractor position (no benefits) How to Apply Please submit: Resume CPA license details Brief summary of experience with accounting cleanup and tax corrections Short description of a past project where you cleaned up or corrected problematic accounting records, including what issues were found and how they were resolved Priority will be given to candidates available immediately.
