Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our team in Fresno, California and provide both strong accounting support and day-to-day guidance to a small finance team. This position works closely with the Accounting Manager and plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, coordinating core accounting activities, and strengthening billing and collection processes. The ideal candidate brings solid technical accounting knowledge, confidence working across accounts payable and accounts receivable, and the ability to improve efficiency in a fast-moving operational environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead daily accounting activities while helping coordinate workflow across core finance functions.
- Provide direction and support to accounts payable and accounts receivable staff to promote accuracy, timeliness, and accountability.
- Contribute to monthly close activities by preparing journal entries, reviewing general ledger transactions, and assisting with reconciliations.
- Monitor billing and collection efforts, helping ensure customer invoicing and cash application processes run smoothly.
- Manage account reconciliations and review financial data to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
- Perform bank reconciliations and support the integrity of accounting records through careful documentation and review.
- Handle intercompany accounting tasks as needed and maintain accurate related entries between entities.
- Partner with accounting and operational leaders to strengthen reporting, streamline processes, and improve overall department performance.
- Use Excel and accounting platforms extensively to analyze data, track activity, and support informed financial decisions. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience, including exposure to general ledger and month-end close work.
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and account reconciliation processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to organize, analyze, and validate financial information.
- Experience preparing journal entries, completing bank reconciliations, and maintaining accurate supporting documentation.
- Background in construction, environmental services, or another project-based business environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with job cost accounting is highly valued.
- Ability to communicate effectively, prioritize competing deadlines, and support a collaborative team environment.
