Poway Unified School District - 4.1 San Diego, CA Job Details Full-time $33.01 - $42.25 an hour 23 hours ago Qualifications Confidential information handling Full Job Description Description The current vacancy is for 12 months worked per year, 40 hours per week, in the Extended Student Services department at the District Office. •This recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy at the District Office and future vacancies District-wide• Selection Procedure Applications will be screened, and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process, which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E), multiple-choice question test, job-related performance exercise, and technical/ oral appraisal interview. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of the Personnel Commission. Candidates who pass all examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list based on their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same or equivalent job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1).
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, perform professional accounting activities related to the preparation, maintenance and review of financial records, accounts and reports for the District; provide technical assistance to others regarding accounting and budgeting policies, procedures and requirements; maintain records and files for District construction projects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Accountant II classification serves as the District Accountant and is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring sound fiscal operations for the District. The Accountant I classification performs professional accounting work with primary overall responsibility for the fiscal aspects of a major program requiring separate financial statements and reports, such as food services and other major District-wide funds. Examples of Duties Representative Duties Perform professional accounting work in accordance with prescribed accounting system and generally accepted principles of accounting. E Prepare, maintain and review financial records, accounts and claims for categorical and special education funds; assure correct amounts for revenue and expenses are budgeted; review and correct payroll charges as necessary; provide technical assistance to school sites; prepare projects and budgets as necessary. E Maintain records and files for District construction projects; prepare SAB184 and SB50 New School Construction reports and related categorized spreadsheets; obtain invoices and reconcile total costs on financial systems; prepare requisitions for wire transfer of funds from bonds for construction expenses. E Reconcile bank statements; calculate gains and losses from sale of bonds; prepare journal entries to record activity, transfers and interest. E Prepare a variety of comprehensive financial statements and reports for the Board of Trustees; prepare and maintain financial claims, records and reports for various accounting areas; maintain efficient and effective record-keeping systems and audit trails. E Conduct research and prepare special studies as requested; analyze financial accounting data and make appropriate recommendations. E Answer questions and provide a variety of information and assistance to District and other personnel regarding budgets, accounts and related information; provide technical expertise and direction regarding accounting issues and discrepancies; coordinate activities with other departments and District personnel. E Prepare, review and correct school, department and County budget and expenditure transfers; verify account numbers and related information; prepare a variety of forms for the receipt of District funds. E Provide work direction and guidance for the budget, accounts payable and receivable functions as assigned. E Analyze budget documentation to assure that expenditures are properly charged and do not exceed appropriations; make recommendations accordingly; prepare projected salary and non-salary information. E Analyze data and prepare projections, financial statements and reports providing statistical and financial information related to the District financial position and transactions. E Monitor and audit student body accounts for each school site; train and assist school personnel; prepare reports and resolve transaction errors and discrepancies; compile data and prepare quarterly ASB reports for the Board. Assist in the development and implementation of new or revised procedures and forms to assure efficiency and compliance with District policies and applicable governmental regulations. Assist with the preparation and management of the annual budget as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned.
NOTE:

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field and four years experience as a full charge bookkeeper. Perform professional accounting and technical work involved in the preparation and maintenance of District financial records. Maintain a variety of District fiscal records, accounts and funds. Analyze and resolve problems and draw accurate conclusions. Prepare clear and accurate financial statements. Work independently with little direction. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and time lines. Plan and organize work. Work confidentially with discretion. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Operate a variety of office machines including typewriter, calculator, computer and printer.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and calculator. Seeing to read a variety of materials and statistical data. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 (Minimum Salary) of the official salary range designated for the position.
