Job Description
The Senior Accountant is an experienced professional responsible for independently managing assigned tax and accounting engagements while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations. This role applies advanced technical knowledge and professional judgment to complex client work and serves as a key point of contact for both internal team members and assigned clients. Senior Accountants are expected to mentor Staff Accountants, contribute to workflow efficiency, and support the successful delivery of client services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare individual, corporate, fiduciary, and estate tax returns with minimal supervision. Review tax returns where experience has been obtained. Manage assigned client engagements, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality deliverables. Apply federal, state, and local tax regulations in a technically sound and compliant manner. Review work prepared by Staff Accountants and provide clear, constructive feedback. Perform complex accounting tasks, including reconciliations, adjusting entries, and issue resolution. Conduct advanced tax and accounting research and provide practical recommendations Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, responding to questions and coordinating information requests. Identify risks, issues, and opportunities for efficiency or improvement within client engagements. Support workflow planning and assist Managers with scheduling and resource needs as assigned. Ensure workpapers and documentation meet firm quality and compliance standards. Perform other related duties as assigned by other Senior Staff, Managers, and Partners.Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent) Minimum of five (5) years of public accounting or equivalent experience Strong working knowledge of GAAP and federal, state, and local tax regulations Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently Proficiency with Financial/ tax software requiredPreferred Qualifications:
CPA/ EA license or meaningful progress toward CPA/EA or advanced accounting/tax certification Familiarity with complex or multi-entity client structures Experience with advanced tax/financial software (e.g., Lacerte, BNA, Checkpoint)Core Competencies/Skills:
Strong technical accounting and tax expertise Sound professional judgment and problem-solving skills Ability to review work critically and provide actionable feedback Effective written and verbal communication with clients and internal teams Time management and ownership mindset Leadership presence without formal people-management responsibility High level of professionalism and confidentiality Physical Requirements (if applicable): Ability to work at a desk and use standard office equipment for extended periods.
