Staff Accountant Robert Half - 3.9 Santa Barbara, CA Job Details Temporary | Contract $30.40 - $35.20 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Disability insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Vision insurance Qualifications Spreadsheets Financial record maintenance Accounting and finance experience Financial data analysis tools Data analysis software Full Job Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a team on a contract basis for a short-term assignment expected to last 1-2 months, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for an accounting specialist who is comfortable working onsite, thrives in Excel-heavy environments, and can quickly step in to support day-to-day financial operations and audit-related tasks. The position offers a Monday through Friday schedule with some flexibility.
Responsibilities:
Reconcile bank accounts and company credit card activity to ensure transactions are accurate and properly recorded. Maintain budget tracking through manual spreadsheets, including monitoring purchase order spending against planned amounts. Review accounts payable invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal documentation standards. Prepare supporting schedules and worksheets needed for audit requests and financial review activities. Use Excel tools such as sorting, filtering, pivot tables, and lookup functions to organize data and identify transaction trends. Generate reports and analyze financial information to provide clear, actionable data for accounting needs. Record and review accounting activity with a solid understanding of debit and credit principles. Access accounting data within internal software systems while relying heavily on Excel for daily processing and analysis. Provide additional accounting support during peak audit periods as needed. At least 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience in a hands-on financial environment. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, filtering, sorting, pivot tables, and lookup functions. Working knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes. Clear understanding of debits and credits and how they apply to day-to-day accounting transactions. Experience reviewing financial records, invoices, and supporting documentation with strong attention to detail. Ability to extract data from reports and interpret information for accounting follow-up and reporting needs. Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is preferred. Availability to work onsite in Santa Barbara, California for the duration of the assignment.
