Job Description

Position title: Cost Accountant Reports to:
Accounting Manager Summary:
The Cost Accountant plays a key role in managing and analyzing financial records to optimize the company's financial performance. This position is responsible for establishing and updating cost standards, preparing detailed financial reports, and ensuring the accuracy of financial data. The role involves both strategic analysis and hands-on accounting tasks to support decision-making processes.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and review balance sheets and general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial standards. Establish and regularly update standard costs for products and services based on current expenses. Analyze organizational data, including labor, depreciation, and overhead rates, to provide insights and recommend policy changes that enhance financial outcomes. Propose and implement improvements to policies and procedures aimed at optimizing cash flow and financial performance. Prepare detailed financial reports, including monthly and quarterly statements, for executive management. Oversee cost control systems, interpret results from cost audits, and compile cost accounting reports for presentation to senior leadership. Investigate and resolve unusual cost records, ensuring correct allocation of cost data. Understand and, if needed, perform reconciliations for accounts and bank statements to ensure data integrity. Understand and, if needed, manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely processing. Prepare and manage invoices and loan packages in line with company procedures. Provide oversight and guidance to junior accounting team members, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. Oversight of junior team members. Other duties as required. Experience A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the accounting field Experience working in the government or aerospace industry is preferred.
Required Skills:
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application in financial processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, etc.) to effectively manage and present financial data. Experience working within ERP systems (e.g., NAV, Deltek, SAP) with the ability to navigate and utilize these platforms efficiently. Knowledge of and ability to understand contractual and purchase order language. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and organizational policies, ensuring compliance and sound decision-making. Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all financial analyses and reporting. Proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments and functions to achieve financial and business objectives. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clarity and precision in financial reporting and presentations.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with governmental accounting practices and procedures. Experience with AS9100D Quality Management System policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to industry standards. Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline Equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Desired Certifications Certified Public Accountant (CPA) ITAR Requirements To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Other Requirements Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check. Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
