Job Description

St. Francis Center (SFC), a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, was established in June 1983. SFC is a refuge for men and women who are homeless in the metro Denver area. Our programs and services are tailored toward adult women and men, and focus on daytime shelter, social services, health and wellness, housing, employment, and outreach. At SFC, "guests" have the opportunity to work with a variety of specialists, depending on their individual needs, which is often the first step toward transformation and ultimately self-sufficiency. We are currently looking for a Staff Accountant . This is a Full-Time, non-exempt position eligible for an excellent benefit package as outlined below. Position Overview The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the daily financial operations of St. Francis Center, with a primary focus on accounts payable and transaction processing. This role supports fund accounting, grant accounting, donor gift processing, accounts receivable, and maintenance of accounting records and files. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Senior Accountant to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial operations in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards. Primary Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned) Accounts Payable & Financial Operations Serve as the primary lead for accounts payable functions, including invoice review, coding verification, tracking and obtaining invoice approvals, vendor communication, maintaining vendor files and W-9 documentation, check processing and check writing, ACH payment coordination, and ensuring timely and accurate payment processing. Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation to ensure compliance, audit readiness, and proper grant allocation. Accounts Receivable & Donor Processing Assist with accounts receivable functions, donor gift processing, fundraising data entry, and maintaining accurate donor and financial records. Grant Management Assist with tracking restricted funds and monitoring grant spending to ensure expenses are properly allocated, documented, and compliant with grant requirements. Compliance & Reporting Ensure adherence to GAAP and nonprofit accounting regulations. Assist with reconciliations, audit preparation, financial reporting, and supporting documentation as needed. Internal Controls Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to minimize errors, prevent fraud, and support accurate financial reporting. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or 3+ years experience in accounting Excellent written, oral, and organizational skills Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Flexible and creative self-starter who can work both independently and within a team Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups including management and staff Prior experience in a non-profit environment is essential Commitment to the Agency's mission.
Compensation and Benefits Salary Range:
$60,000-$75,000 annually This is a full-time, non-exempt position, Monday through Friday on site.
