Controller Position Summary:
Colorado Mechanical Insulation (CMI) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our team. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting the company's accounting and financial operations. This position will be responsible for accounts payable processing, processing cash receipts, posting journal entries, account reconciliations, and assisting with month-end and year-end close activities. The Staff Accountant will also support financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and construction project accounting functions. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, eager to learn, and capable of working effectively. Prior industry accounting experience not required as long as fundamental accounting skills and knowledge are strong. Position would be ideal for a recent accounting graduate who is actively pursuing or thinking about pursuing their CPA, with a strong fundamental knowledge of accounting looking for real world application.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Process and maintain accounts payable transactions, ensuring accuracy and timely payment of vendor invoices. Record and reconcile cash receipts and assist with cash management activities. Prepare and post journal entries. Support month-end and year-end close processes. Assist the Controller in maintaining accounting schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation for financial reporting and audits. Participate in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses. Assist operations with construction accounting functions, including Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and reporting. Review financial data for accuracy and identify discrepancies or areas requiring follow-up. Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls. Collaborate with operations managers, operations personnel, and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting. Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned. Cross train on payroll as a third backup.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. Active progress towards CPA or active CPA a strong plus. 1-3 years of industry accounting experience preferred but not required. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills required. Experience with accounts payable, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, etc. a plus but not required. Construction industry accounting experience is a plus but not required. Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Pay:
$60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
