Wheat Ridge was founded during the 1859 Gold Rush as a rest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title "Carnation City." Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. It operates as a home-rule city with a council-manager government, where the elected council sets policy, and the manager oversees daily operations and budgeting. : Under general supervision, applies principles of accounting to record financial information; prepare financial reports; and, perform a variety of assigned accounting functions including but not limited to general ledger account reconciliations, journal entries, chart of account maintenance, bank account reconciliations, process and procedure compliance and internal audit functions. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive: Compile and classify financial information. Create and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries. Assist with month end financial reporting. Assist with daily cash drawer receipting. Record recurring electronic and non-electronic receipts Assist Court with Positive Pay Monitor daily bank e-mail notifications and notify Accounting Supervisor of any unexpected or unusual transactions Perform month end account reconciliations, including banking relationships. Maintain the chart of accounts and communicate to internal customers, when needed, the appropriate account code for expenditures and revenues. Assist Accounts Payable by reviewing vendor payment documentation for accuracy and compliance with external and internal payment terms. Assist with the annual audit and related preparation of the financial statements and supporting documentation. Under the guidance of the Accounting Supervisor, assist with review and analysis of budget to actual including: business plan design for appropriate departments, supplies and services budget, fee schedules, etc. Provides budget information and assistance to other departments as requested. May perform internal departmental audits as requested. Serve as backup for Accounts Payable and other divisional functions as needed. Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in accounting, finance or closely related field; 1-2 years related experience and/or training; Must possess excellent customer service/interpersonal skills. Proficient in MS Office with advanced knowledge of Excel and financial package applications. Government accounting and OpenGov Finance software experience a plus. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
