We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Job Cost Accountant to join our team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring project profitability, financial accuracy, and operational efficiency by monitoring job costs throughout the lifecycle of restoration and reconstruction projects. Position Overview The Job Cost Accountant is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and reporting project costs while working closely with Project Managers, Estimators, Production Teams, and Leadership. This individual will help ensure all labor, material, subcontractor, and miscellaneous expenses are accurately recorded and allocated to the appropriate projects. The ideal candidate enjoys working with numbers, identifying discrepancies, improving processes, and providing financial insights that help drive business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Job Costing & Financial Analysis Monitor job costs for restoration and reconstruction projects. Review labor, materials, subcontractor invoices, equipment, and miscellaneous expenses for accuracy. Ensure all costs are properly coded and assigned to the correct project. Analyze project profitability and identify cost variances. Track budget-to-actual performance throughout project lifecycles. Generate job cost reports for leadership and project management teams. Assist in forecasting project financial outcomes. Project Accounting Review estimates, change orders, and project budgets. Audit project files to ensure financial accuracy and completeness. Work with Project Managers to reconcile project costs and identify discrepancies. Assist with project closeouts and final financial reviews. Ensure all documentation is properly maintained within company systems. PNL Statements Accounts Payable & Vendor Management Review and process vendor and subcontractor invoices. Verify invoice accuracy against approved work and purchase orders. Monitor subcontractor billing and payment schedules. Maintain accurate vendor records and supporting documentation. Reporting & Compliance Prepare monthly job cost and profitability reports. Support month-end and year-end closing activities. Assist with audits and financial reviews. Maintain compliance with company accounting policies and procedures. Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost control. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred. 2+ years of accounting, job costing, construction accounting, project accounting, or bookkeeping experience preferred. 2+ QuickBooks Online Experience in restoration, construction, home services, or project-based industries Strong understanding of job costing principles and financial reporting. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, spreadsheets, and data analysis. Experience with accounting software and project management systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
