Contract-to-Hire Position Overview Our nonprofit client is seeking a Staff Accountant to support day to day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting. This role will assist with general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, month-end close, and compliance activities, while working closely with the finance team to support the organization's mission and funding requirements. Key Responsibilities Support the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank and balance sheet reconciliations Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing as needed Prepare and review supporting schedules for financial statements Track and reconcile restricted and unrestricted funds Assist with grant tracking, reporting, and compliance documentation Support annual audit preparation and respond to auditor requests Maintain accurate and organized financial records in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards Assist with budget tracking and variance analysis Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial coding and documentation Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) 2-4 years of accounting experience; nonprofit or fund accounting experience strongly preferred Working knowledge of general ledger accounting and reconciliations Experience with month-end close activities Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience with nonprofit accounting systems (MIP, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar preferred) Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage deadlines in a structured, compliance-driven environment Professional communication skills and ability to handle confidential information Nice to Have Experience supporting grants, cost reports, or government-funded programs Prior audit support experience Familiarity with nonprofit financial reporting requirements Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
