Whitman-Walker Health - 4.2 Washington, DC Job Details Full-time $85,000 - $98,000 a year 1 hour ago Qualifications Accounting systems Bachelor's degree in business administration Bachelor's degree Full Job Description Whitman-Walker Health System seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of a dynamic healthcare Research, Advocacy and Philanthropy organization dedicated to affirming, community-centered care. The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the integrity of the organization's financial reporting through oversight of general accounting activities, month-end close, account reconciliations, financial analysis, grant and restricted funding accounting, and audit support. This role will serve as a key member of the Finance team and will work collaboratively across departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), healthcare and nonprofit accounting standards, grant and funding requirements, and internal financial controls. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting experience in a healthcare, nonprofit healthcare, grant management for a mission-based environment and demonstrate proficiency using Blackbaud Financial Edge or related Blackbaud financial systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Financial Accounting & Reporting Prepare and post monthly journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and adjusting entries. Lead and support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to resolution. Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger, including account analysis and supporting schedules. Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual internal financial reports and variance analyses for Finance leadership. Support cash reconciliations, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, payroll allocations, liabilities, and restricted funding balances. Blackbaud Financial Systems Administration & Utilization Utilize Blackbaud Financial Edge (or related Blackbaud applications) to process accounting transactions, maintain financial records, prepare reports, and support departmental financial operations. Support optimization of financial reporting and workflows within Blackbaud systems. Assist with chart of accounts maintenance, reporting structures, and system-related process improvements. Healthcare, Grant & Compliance Accounting Support accounting related to healthcare programs, grants, contracts, and restricted funding sources. Ensure expenditures are accurately recorded and aligned with grant restrictions, program budgets, and organizational requirements. Assist with preparation of audit schedules, grant reporting, and supporting documentation for regulatory and funding agencies. Support compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements applicable to healthcare and nonprofit organizations. Audit, Controls & Process Improvement Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for annual financial statement audits and other compliance reviews. Maintain and support strong internal controls and accounting documentation practices. Recommend process improvements to strengthen efficiency, reporting accuracy, and financial controls. Participate in special accounting and finance projects as assigned. Collaboration & Organizational Support Partner with departmental leadership to support budget monitoring and financial analysis. Work collaboratively with Finance team members and operational departments to ensure accurate financial information and timely issue resolution. Support a culture of accountability, service, collaboration, equity, and mission alignment across the organization. Minimum Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with concentration in accounting, Finance, or related discipline required. Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting experience required; seven (7)+ years preferred. Prior experience in healthcare, nonprofit healthcare, community health, FQHC, behavioral health, or mission-based environments strongly preferred. Demonstrated hands-on experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge or related Blackbaud financial systems required. Experience supporting audits, grant accounting, and financial statement preparation preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit and/or healthcare accounting principles. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. Strong analytical, organizational, and reconciliation skills with high attention to detail. Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in a mission-driven healthcare environment. Preferred Qualifications CPA certification or CPA-track preferred. Experience with restricted funds, grants management, donor-funded programs, or federally funded healthcare programs preferred. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in healthcare or nonprofit organizations preferred. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. Occasional onsite attendance for meetings, audits, or organizational events as required.
