To Apply for this Job Click Here Staff Accountant - Washington, DC Overview Our client in Washington, DC is seeking a Staff Accountant to support their accounting and finance operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, with a focus on general ledger activity, grant accounting, and financial reporting in a nonprofit environment. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, organization, and experience working with restricted funding and compliance standards. Key Responsibilities Assist with daily accounting functions, including preparation of journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, and supporting the month-end close process. Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, prepaid expenses, and other balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness. Support grant and fund accounting activities, including tracking restricted funds and monitoring expenditures against grant requirements. Prepare grant-related billings, invoices, and financial reports in alignment with donor guidelines and reporting deadlines. Analyze grant budgets versus actual spending and assist with financial tracking across multiple funding sources. Contribute to accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing and cash application. Assist with audit support, including compiling documentation and responding to auditor requests. Produce internal financial reports and assist in the preparation of financial statements. Work cross-functionally with program staff and finance team members to ensure proper financial reporting and compliance. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve overall efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Experience within a nonprofit environment, including exposure to grant accounting and restricted funds, required. Strong understanding of general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes. Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. Prior experience supporting audits and preparing financial documentation is preferred. Proficiency with accounting software (such as QuickBooks, MIP, NetSuite, or similar) and strong Excel skills. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational abilities. Excellent communication skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
