Department Chair, Accounting Position Summary Bethune-Cookman University's College of Business & Entrepreneurship invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, supporting student success, engaging in scholarly activity, and contributing to the mission and academic excellence of the University. Teaching Responsibilities Teach a range of undergraduate and/or graduate accounting courses, including financial and managerial accounting, as well as upper-level courses Course load consistent with university standards across Fall, Spring, and Summer terms Courses may be delivered in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats based on institutional needs Develop and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction aligned with program learning outcomes Utilize diverse instructional strategies to support student learning and success Assess student performance and provide timely, meaningful feedback Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and course materials Scholarly & Professional Responsibilities Maintain an active research agenda, including publications in peer-reviewed journals (preferred) Stay current in the accounting discipline and integrate emerging trends into coursework Participate in professional development and continuous learning activities Service Responsibilities Advise and mentor students Maintain regular office hours and respond to student communications in a timely manner Participate in departmental, college, and university meetings and committees Support program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement initiatives Participate in University events, including commencement exercises Required Qualifications Earned doctorate in accounting or a closely related field (Ph.D. or DBA) Minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in accounting Demonstrated expertise in accounting principles and practices Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to teach diverse student populations Preferred Qualifications Professional Certification (e.g., CPA - Preferred, not required) Teaching experience at the collegiate level Expertise in areas such as auditing, accounting, information systems, or analytics Experience teaching in online or hybrid formats Record of scholarly publications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills Ability to integrate theory with practical, real-world application Commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring Terms of Appointment Full-time appointment with a start date to be determined Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience Appointment subject to annual evaluation and University policies
Environment/Physical Requirements:
The working environment is a normal business office setting. Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity. Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items. Must be mobile throughout the campus.
