$55,000•$65,000 POSITION SUMMARY This is a finance accounting position with the incumbent's primary responsibility is payroll accounting. The Accountant II is responsible for the review of all payroll accounts, payroll data, reconciliation of accounts, completing journal entries, analysis and payment documents to ensure accuracy and completeness based on earning processing, hours worked and ensuring payments are made on time. Other accounting duties may be assigned by the finance and accounting leadership team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The accountant will work with the HR department in reviewing payroll data and documents for inefficiencies and errors, checking whether all amounts are accurate based on hours worked. Evaluating payroll data and financial statement payroll accounts, determining required accruals, preparing journal entries, reconciling and analyzing payroll affiliated balances. Reconciliation of payroll records, billing and invoices, payroll earnings, and verifying payroll data, including gross pay, retirement, and leave time. Process payment support for payroll related vendors for benefits, pension, etc. and serve as liaison between vendors and the agency. Assist with year-end audit for payroll-related inquiries and answer auditor requests by pulling required reports, wage data, and/or other payroll related support. Advanced skills in software applications related to payroll/accounting systems; principles and techniques of technical record keeping. Compiles data and prepares complex, statistical payroll reports including government (payroll tax returns) and compliance reporting. Preparing reports and forecasts for senior management and managing internal controls. Adheres to the strict confidentiality of payroll records and other wage related employee issues. Assist in any additional ad hoc projects or departmental needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate requires a bachelor's degree in accounting with minimum three (3) years of payroll accounting experience or equivalent experience. Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designations are preferred. Good mathematical aptitude and understanding of basic accounting principles, GAAP are beneficial for the job. Meticulousness with focus on quality customer service with capability to manage deadlines and priorities are essential for the job. Advanced Excel Skills is required and competency using Microsoft Office suite and Yardi Systems. JHA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Drug-Free Workplace.
