Cost Accountant Department:
Finance / Accounting Position Summary The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, preparing cost reports, and ensuring accurate valuation of inventory and cost of goods sold. This position plays a key role in supporting financial planning, product pricing, and operational efficiency by providing insights into cost drivers and profitability across the business. Key Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and analyze standard costs for all manufactured products and components. Prepare detailed cost variance analyses and investigate material, labor, and overhead variances. Work closely with production, engineering, and procurement teams to monitor and control manufacturing costs. Analyze inventory valuation, reconcile inventory accounts, and ensure accurate reporting in the general ledger. Support the month-end close process, including journal entries, cost roll-ups, and reconciliations. Review bills of materials (BOMs) and routings for accuracy and cost integrity. Assist in developing annual budgets and forecasts, including cost assumptions and production metrics. Provide financial insights to support pricing decisions, product line profitability, and process improvements. Maintain and improve internal cost accounting procedures and controls. Participate in audits and provide supporting documentation as needed.
