Full Job Description About Impact Church:

Position Overview The Staff Accountant provides comprehensive accounting and financial support to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations for both the church and our K-12 school, Impact Christian Academy. This role goes beyond accounts payable to include general ledger management, reconciliations, month-end close support, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant partners closely with the Finance Team to strengthen processes, maintain internal controls, and support leadership with reliable financial insights. As part of a faith-based organization, this individual will also actively engage in the life and community of Impact Church, aligning with our mission, values, and culture.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable & Disbursements Own the full accounts payable lifecycle, including invoice intake, coding, approvals, and payment processing. Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy, completeness, policy compliance, and proper documentation. Prepare and process weekly check runs and electronic payments. Resolve vendor discrepancies, credit memos, and payment issues in a timely and professional manner. Maintain vendor records, including W-9s, tax documentation, and contact information. Prepare and manage annual 1099 reporting and related compliance. General Ledger & Reconciliations Record and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation. Maintain and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts on a monthly basis. Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts. Investigate and resolve variances and discrepancies proactively. Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with accounting policies and internal controls. Month-End Close & Financial Reporting Assist in and progressively take ownership of portions of the monthly close process. Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for financial statements. Collaborate with the rest of the Finance Team on monthly financial reports for the Executive Team. •Distribute monthly departmental reports and follow up with staff to verify expenditures and coding. Support audit, review, or external accountant requests as needed. Process Improvement & Internal Controls Document, maintain, and improve accounts payable and accounting policies and procedures. Identify inefficiencies, risks, or control gaps and recommend improvements. Support consistent application of financial policies across church and school operations. Assist with system optimizations within ERP and accounting platforms. Collaboration & Special Projects Partner with the Purchasing Coordinator and Finance Team to ensure accurate purchasing and payment workflows. Support special projects, financial analyses, and ad hoc reporting as requested. Participate in weekly church staff meetings and finance-related meetings. Engage in professional development to remain current on accounting best practices.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Demonstrated Christian faith and alignment with the mission of Impact Church Willingness to actively engage in the life of the church, including pursuing membership within the first 90 days of employment Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred 3+ years of accounting experience (AP + GL required) Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls Experience with accounting systems (Sage Intacct or QuickBooks preferred) Advanced Excel skills Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to handle confidential information with integrity Strong communication and problem-solving skills Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to change.
