POSITION PURPOSE
The Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing all cash handling activities within the hotel, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with accounting standards. This role involves managing daily cash transactions, reconciling accounts, and providing support to the accounting department. The ideal candidate will have strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and previous experience in accounting or cash handling roles. Additionally, this role will assist with Accounts Payable functions within the finance department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage all cash transactions, including cash receipts and disbursements, in accordance with established procedures. Maintain accurate cash balances in cash registers and ensure proper documentation of all transactions. Prepare daily cash reports and reconcile cash accounts to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly. Process and record deposits, including credit card transactions, checks, and cash, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Assist with the preparation of financial reports, including month-end and year-end closing activities. Monitor and maintain adequate levels of change funds and petty cash to support daily operations. Adhere to internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and audit standards. Collaborate with other departments, such as front office and food and beverage, to address cash-related inquiries and discrepancies. Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in accounting and cash handling practices. Process accounts payable invoices in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. Review and verify invoices for accuracy, coding, and approval prior to payment. Maintain vendor records, including contact information and payment terms, and respond to vendor inquiries as needed. Prepare and process electronic payments, checks, and wire transfers for approved invoices. Reconcile accounts payable transactions and resolve any discrepancies with vendors or internal departments. Assist in the preparation of financial reports related to cash handling and accounts payable activities. Compile and analyze data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement in cash management and accounts payable processes. QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Proficient in M3 Accounting System, Micros POS, OPERA, Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence. Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages. Commitment to excellence and high standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Strong organizational, problem-solving, attention to detail, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow. Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm. Understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
