Senior Cost Accountant
$85,000 - $100,000/year

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Revenue & Tax Compliance:
Prepare monthly reconciliations ensuring revenue reported in sales and consumer use tax returns (e-filed via Avalara) aligns with the Company's financial ledgers, and work cross-functionally to resolve process variances.
Prepare and file monthly sales and consumer use tax returns for acquired entities until integration into the Company's ERP is complete.
Compile fiscal-year-to-date sales-by-state data (origin and destination) to support state apportionment calculations.
Monitor annual sales by state to identify jurisdictions requiring new tax registrations (Nexus).
Serve as primary user/administrator of Avalara's Avatax software.
Record and reconcile tax liabilities for sales/use tax and other non-income tax obligations (business tax, commercial activity tax, commerce tax, etc.). Business Personal Property:
Serve as primary point of contact with the Company's third-party preparer for annual property tax renditions.
Record and reconcile tax liabilities for business personal property and leased real properties (single, double, and triple net).
Prepare 13-week property tax payment forecasts and submit to Treasury; initiate and document all property tax payments.
Generate monthly fixed asset and depreciation reports required for state and federal income tax return preparation. Customer Credits & Unclaimed Property:
Track and analyze unapplied credit balances in trade receivable accounts.
Collaborate with revenue cycle functions to minimize the Company's tax exposure for unclaimed property and escheatment. Audit & Regulatory Support:
Serve as the primary point of contact for state and local tax authorities during desk reviews, inquiries, and audits.
Compile revenue, asset, and ledger data requested by the Company's third-party preparers for state, federal, and foreign income tax returns.
Initiate all income tax-related payments (extensions, estimates, returns) and properly document and record them.
Record and reconcile the Company's tax liabilities for state, federal, and foreign income taxes. Internal Controls & Compliance:
Perform detailed reconciliations of compliance-related balance sheet accounts to ensure data integrity.
Enforce processes and policies that mitigate financial risk and prevent fraud.
Compile necessary documentation, schedules, and workpapers for external audits (local, state, federal, and financial). Collaboration & Support:
Partner with cross-functional departments to address unexpected variances or inquiries and implement corrective action.
Comprehend multi-state taxation of revenue and assets to provide accurate guidance across the organization. SKILLS YOU BRING
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
Minimum 3-5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally including exposure to taxation, regulatory compliance, or financial reporting
Strong quantitative analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong proficiency with MS Office, particularly advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, SUMIFS, pivot tables, text-to-columns, etc.)
Understanding of GAAP application and compliance
Experience working with PE companies a plus
Large ERP software exposure, especially MS Dynamics AX, a plus
