Brown & McCook is a boutique tax and accounting firm serving business owners and real estate investors. We specialize in high-level tax planning, strategy, and client advisory — not commodity tax preparation. We are looking for someone ambitious, coachable, organized, and hard-working who wants to build a real long-term career in tax, accounting, and client service. You do NOT need prior tax experience. We will teach you the technical side. What matters most is your attitude, work ethic, communication skills, and willingness to learn. What You'll DoYear 1 - The Foundation Transmit tax returns and manage e-file confirmations Handle IRS and state tax notices Assist with LLC and entity formations Perform data entry for tax returns while learning tax concepts Communicate with clients by phone, email, and portal Learn QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online Support the team with operational and administrative responsibilities You'll learn how taxes, accounting, and small businesses actually work while doing real client work from day one. Year 2 - Growing Into Tax Work Prepare simpler tax returns under supervision Handle client questions and communication Participate in tax planning discussions Build relationships with business-owner clients Continue developing accounting and advisory skills Year 3 - Professional Development Prepare returns independently with team support Participate in tax strategy and advisory calls Manage portions of client relationships Continue building into a long-term tax advisory role Top performers can grow into compensation potential of $75,000+ within approximately 3 years. What We're Looking For You do NOT need: Prior tax experience A CPA license To know everything on day one We WILL teach you the technical side.
You SHOULD be:
Organized and detail-oriented Coachable and open to feedback Resourceful and able to solve problems independently Comfortable using technology, research tools, and AI Strong with communication and customer service Motivated to become exceptional at your craft Minimum Qualifications (at least one preferred) 2- or 4-year degree in accounting, finance, business, or related fieldOR 2+ years experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, tax, or administrative operations Strongly Preferred 1-2+ years in customer service or client-facing work This Role Is Demanding — and Worth It Tax deadlines are real. Expectations are high. You'll be challenged consistently and expected to grow quickly. You'll make mistakes. We'll coach you through them.
