Full-Time About Ordner Construction Ordner Construction is a mid-size commercial general contractor founded in 1987. We specialize in light industrial, big box retail, medical, and office construction projects. Headquartered in Duluth, Georgia, with offices in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Mobile, Alabama, we are expanding into Dallas, Texas. At Ordner, we pride ourselves on delivering quality projects and building strong, lasting relationships with our clients across the Southeast and beyond. Position Overview The Project Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting administration of assigned construction projects. This role includes project setup, billing, accounts payable processing, job cost entry, compliance tracking, and maintaining accurate project financial records throughout the project lifecycle. The Project Accountant works closely with Project Managers and reports directly to the Controller. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through. Key Responsibilities Project Accounting Administration Enter project commitments, change orders and actual costs into Accounting Software. Enter invoices into Accounting Software and process for approval. Once approved prep for payment. Set up new projects in the accounting system with accurate budgets, cost codes, and contract details. Billing, Payables & Receivables Review owner billings (AIA forms or similar formats) prepared by Project Managers, verify balances and supporting documentation, and submit billing packages in accordance with contract requirements. Process subcontractor pay applications, ensuring all numbers are accurate, signed, notarized, and supported by valid lien waivers and insurance certificates. Review vendor and material invoices for accuracy and proper coding; route to Project Managers for approval and job cost entry. Compliance & Documentation Maintain organized project accounting files including contracts, change orders, waivers, and correspondence. Verify subcontractor insurance certificates and track expiration dates. Administrative Support Create and update expense reports for project and field staff. Maintain digital and physical accounting records. Provide day-to-day administrative assistance to the accounting and operations teams. Collaboration Identify and communicate billing discrepancies, documentation issues, missing approvals, and cost coding concerns to project teams and the Controller. Support month-end close and reporting activities with the corporate accounting team. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2-5 years of experience in construction or project-based accounting required. Strong understanding of job cost accounting, AIA billing, and change order processes. Proficiency with Viewpoint Vista or similar construction accounting software. Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with project teams and management. Preferred Skills Experience with lien waiver tracking, subcontractor compliance, and insurance certificate management. Experience processing project billings, subcontractor pay applications, and vendor invoices. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and documentation requirements. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail when working with financial data and project records. Ability to follow established processes while maintaining a high level of accountability and follow-through.
