This role takes ownership of general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes, while also providing mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff. The ideal candidate will serve as a subject matter expert in travel and expense management, sales and use tax compliance, and audit support. In addition, this position leads customer master data governance, ensuring data accuracy and consistency across accounting, sales, and customer systems. The Senior Staff Accountant will work cross-functionally with multiple departments to drive process improvements, maintain compliance, and deliver financial insights that support strategic business decisions. This role requires advanced analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage complex priorities in a fast-paced environment while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Job Responsibilities Prepare, review, and post journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, and other balance sheet accounts Lead and execute month-end and year-end close processes, including coordinating with cross-functional teams Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, analysis, and technical explanations Serve as customer master specialist for parts and service; oversee data governance with the accounting, sales, and customer teams Lead collaboration across departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and process alignment Review and process employee travel and expense (T&E) reports for accuracy and policy compliance Ensure timely reimbursement of employee expenses and enforce policy adherence Audit expense reports for discrepancies, missing documentation, or policy violations Manage corporate credit card transactions and reconciliations Analyze T&E spending trends and provide actionable reporting to management Lead improvements and implementation of expense management systems and processes Prepare and file sales and use tax returns in a timely and accurate manner Maintain sales tax records and supporting documentation Ensure compliance with multi-state and local sales tax regulations Reconcile sales tax payable accounts and resolve discrepancies Monitor changes in tax laws and assess impact on the organization; communicate findings proactively Support and lead responses to audits related to sales and use tax Manage sales tax registrations and nexus tracking Manage fixed assets database and software, including depreciation schedules and reporting Compose and deliver business correspondence in a professional and timely manner Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff Maintain regular and reliable attendance Perform other duties as assigned Skills, Qualifications & Experience Minimum 5 years' experience in full-cycle accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field strongly preferred; CPA or CPA candidacy a plus Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; proficient in Word and Outlook Experience with QuickBooks and SAP required Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills Proven ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff preferred Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Qualifications Requires comprehensive knowledge and the ability to perform all duties and functions expected of the job classification, including all classifications assigned. Must demonstrate advanced proficiency in accounting, bookkeeping, administrative, and office procedures. Must possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization and fulfill all job duties and requirements.
