Egdamin Hu CPA Inc. is a local CPA firm focused on tax preparation, advisory, payroll, and business bookkeeping. We have been open for 10+ years and are continuing to grow! Our firm is large enough to offer a full range of professional services but small enough to provide our staff and clients with the individual attention we all deserve. Our staff receive training from our partners, seminars, and accounting software companies. Our company philosophy encourages asking questions as soon as possible. If we don't know the answer, we will find out for our clients and staff. Our staff accountants work on a mix of tax preparation, advisory, and business bookkeeping. We have the honor of serving many individuals and businesses on the Big Island of Hawaii, giving our staff opportunities to learn about diverse companies. Responsibilities Bookkeeping & Client Advisory Maintain accurate records for clients across various industries Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close procedures including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and adjusting journal entries Prepare and deliver timely financial statements and management reports Act as a trusted advisor to clients by identifying bookkeeping issues, cash flow trends, and financial discrepancies Communicate proactively with clients to gather information, answer questions, and provide guidance on accounting best practices Assist with onboarding new clients, including setting up accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, etc.) Collaborate with staff to provide supporting workpapers and documentation at year-end Mentor junior staff and review their work for accuracy and completeness Stay current on accounting standards and software tools relevant to client advisory services Prepare and review individual and corporate income tax returns Tax & Payroll Assist with preparation of business and individual tax returns during filing seasons, including gathering and organizing client source documents Support sales tax compliance including preparation and filing of periodic returns Process client payroll runs and ensures timely, accurate payroll tax deposits and filings Flag tax-related issues identified during bookkeeping engagements and escalate to senior tax staff as appropriate Communicate about taxes and bookkeeping through meetings, over the phone, and email Train and supervise the staff members assigned to them on engagements Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or related field or similar accounting experience 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a public accounting or client-facing environment Proficiency in UltraTax, QuickBooks, Thomson Reuters's Software, Engagement, or similar accounting and software Experience preparing financial statements on various bases of accounting Ability to work comfortably in both a digital and paper environment Willing to learn new software Ability to work well with other staff members and work as part of a team Ability to communicate well verbally, over the phone, via video calls, and in writing Can be an active listener on assignments, follows instructions, and follows up with clarifying questions Ability to complete work assignments on a timely basis Works well under pressure of deadlines, especially during tax season Detailed orientated and reviews work for apparent errors Recognize when assistance is needed and then requests help promptly Preferred Qualifications • Experience with payroll platforms (Gusto, ADP, Paychex, etc.) • CPA license or active pursuit of licensure (not required) Work Schedule/Structure Full time position located in Hilo, Hawaii.
Business Hours:
7:30am - 4:00pm Support for professional development, continuing education, and mentorship for CPA license Compensation will be based on knowledge and experience level Medical, dental, and vision benefits (Note - The Firm has a policy of making an appropriate investigation to obtain reasonable assurance that individuals meet the employment criteria by obtaining, at the Shareholders option, completed application forms and college transcripts and by communication with personal references and prior employers.
