ACCOUNTANT JOB DESCRIPTION

Executive Director Status:
Full-time, exempt
Location:
On site in Boise, ID GENERAL The Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of Ballet Idaho, including payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, account reconciliations, and preparation of financial reports. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and organization of the company's financial records and supports leadership and the Board with reliable and timely financial information. This is an individual contributor role with no supervisory responsibilities and focuses on execution, accuracy, and consistency rather than financial strategy or budget development. This position offers opportunities for growth and advancement as the organization continues to grow and as the individual establishes ownership of the accounting function and familiarity with the organization's financial operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Operations
  • Manage and maintain the general ledger, including recording and categorizing transactions
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure proper documentation and coding of all financial transactions
  • Monitor cash activity and ensure accurate classification of revenue and expenses Payroll Administration
  • Process semi-monthly payroll, including taxes, deductions, and reporting
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Coordinate employee updates (new hires, changes, terminations) within payroll systems Financial Reporting
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow
  • Provide supporting schedules and documentation for financial results
  • Assist in preparing reports for leadership and the Board Treasurer Reconciliation & Close
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, and all balance sheet accounts
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes Audit & Compliance Support
  • Assist external accountants with audit/review and tax preparation (Form 990, W-2s, 1099s)
  • Maintain organized financial records to ensure audit readiness
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal processes Collaboration & Support
  • Serve as a primary finance contact for internal staff
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board Treasurer on financial reporting needs
  • Partner with Development to track and reconcile donations, pledges, and restricted funds
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain financial systems (QuickBooks Online, payroll systems, and related tools)
  • Assist with insurance certificates and finance-related administrative tasks
  • Support reconciliation of ticketing, events, and other revenue streams
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and employee information
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • 3-6 years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close
  • Hands-on payroll processing experience
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nonprofit accounting experience
  • Experience with donor management systems (Neon CRM)
  • Experience with payment processing platforms (Square, Stripe)
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Experience with grant tracking, compliance, or reporting
BENEFITS
    Salary Range:
    $55,000 - $60,000 per year.
