Senior Property Accountant

Description We are looking for a Senior Property Accountant to support accurate financial reporting and day-to-day accounting operations for a property portfolio in Illinois. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to improving workflows. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and contributing to a high standard of financial accuracy.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties in accordance with GAAP.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely resolution of outstanding items.
• Oversee general ledger activity for property accounts, including journal entries, accruals, and other period-end close tasks.
• Analyze financial results and provide clear explanations of trends, discrepancies, and account activity to internal stakeholders.
• Maintain organized accounting records and support audit, compliance, and reporting requirements with accurate documentation.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting procedures and improve the efficiency of recurring financial processes.
• Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting reporting deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Utilize property accounting systems such as Yardi, when applicable, to support reporting, reconciliations, and account maintenance.

• At least 3 years of property accounting experience with direct responsibility for financial reporting and reconciliations.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and its application to property accounting activities.
• Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements and completing balance sheet reconciliations.
• Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and proactively improve existing processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with careful attention to detail.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Yardi is preferred.
