Job Description

Description We are looking for an experienced Property Accountant to support a real estate and facilities management organization in Chicago, Illinois. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who brings strong property accounting knowledge, works confidently with financial reporting cycles, and can contribute quickly in a fast-paced environment. The position focuses on maintaining accurate property-level financial records, supporting month-end activities, and partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure dependable accounting operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day accounting activity for assigned properties, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on schedule.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules to maintain complete and reliable general ledger records.
  • Lead month-end close tasks for property portfolios, including review of accruals, balance sheet activity, and financial variance analysis.
  • Maintain property financial data within Yardi and use the system to produce reports and validate accounting information.
  • Review income, expenses, and other property-level activity to identify discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist with preparation of recurring financial statements and internal reporting packages for management review.
  • Collaborate with operations and other internal teams to gather documentation, clarify financial activity, and support accurate reporting.
  • Contribute to accounting process updates and provide support for system-related changes when needed as part of ongoing departmental work. Requirements
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience, including direct responsibility for property accounting functions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Yardi software in a property management or real estate environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of month-end close procedures, accrual accounting, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Experience preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reports with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles related to commercial or residential property portfolios.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple assignments effectively.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with accounting and operational teams.
