Our client is a growing real estate company. The ideal candidate brings experience in a small or family-owned business environment, understands the importance of agility and relationship-driven work, and is well-versed in Fair Housing Laws and real estate accounting practices. This role is direct hire and located in Downers Grove, IL.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate, timely, and in compliance with GAAP and real estate accounting standards.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements for internal stakeholders.
  • Utilize accounting software to manage property financials, generate reports, and support operational workflows.
  • Perform system administrator role and resolve tech support issues.
  • Prepare bank and balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Manage daily cash flow and bank account review.
  • Handle mortgage payments and real estate tax payments.
  • Collaborate with the external CPA firm on tax preparation, financial reviews, and compliance-related matters.
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Assist with lease administration and review for accounting impact; update all units, market rents, and availability.
  • Track and record tenant deposits; manage tenant set-up and close-out in Yardi.
  • Issue deposit refunds and process collections.
  • Process annual 1099s and support year-end close across multiple entities.
  • Oversee weekly Accounts Payable function, manage and distribute funds for the payables process, and review payables for accuracy.
  • Make electronic payments to vendors and contractors on a weekly and bi-weekly basis.
  • Handle all payroll-related functions and processing of bi-weekly payroll through ADP.
  • Ensure compliance with state filings and property-related financial obligations.
  • Provide guidance and occasional mentorship to junior accounting staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real estate
  • Hands-on experience with payroll processing software
  • Prior experience in a small or family-owned business environment strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general ledger functions
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • CPA license or active pursuit preferred
  • Experience with Payroll General ledger, Month-end close GAAP, Fair Housing Laws Real estate accounting, Reconciliations, Financial reporting, Accounts payable, and Cash flow management
  • Small/family business process improvement experience
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
