Job Description

Description The Junior Accountant will support the financial management of projects by assisting with job costing, billing, budgeting, and month-end close activities. This role works closely with Project Managers and the Accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting, cost tracking, and compliance with company policies. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to grow within project-based accounting. Key Responsibilities Assist with project setup in the accounting system, including budgets, cost codes, and job numbers Track and maintain job costs, ensuring expenses are coded accurately and timely Support project billing activities, including preparation of invoices, backup documentation, and customer submissions Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable related to project work (invoice entry, payment tracking, collections support) Help reconcile project costs to the general ledger and investigate variances Support month-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations Maintain organized project documentation, contracts, purchase orders, and change orders Partner with Project Managers to answer financial questions and provide basic cost reporting Assist with audit requests and ensure compliance with internal controls and policies Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed Skills Accounting, Accounts payable, Accounts receivable Top Skills Details Accounting,Accounts payable,Accounts receivable Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or working toward completion) 0-3 years of accounting experience; project or cost accounting experience is a plus Basic understanding of GAAP principles Proficiency in Excel (formulas, lookups, pivot tables preferred) Experience with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks) is a plus Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate cross-functionally Experience Level Entry Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Edwardsville, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
