Job Description
Overview In this role, you'll manage the entire revenue-generating process, from invoicing and payments to collections and financial reporting. You'll work closely with the CFO to ensure the smooth execution of support functions critical to optimizing revenue cycle performance and enhancing operational efficiency. Responsibilities Prepare and submit bills to families for coinsurances and deductibles for services rendered for hospice and palliative care. Analyze reimbursements and billing compliance, conduct data mining for reports, and prepare data for forecasts and budgets Investigate and resolve claim denials, research and submit claims, and audit payments from third-party payers. Monitor and manage AR aging reports, post payments, and adjustments, and perform cash posting reconciliation. Handle unbilled claims, deferred revenue calculations, and reconcile payments received to the AR system. Produce timely and accurate daily, weekly, and monthly revenue cycle reports. Work with clinical departments to resolve coding and documentation issues. Collaborate with other departments to improve the process. Stay current on hospice regulations, payer requirements (like Medicare, Medicaid, and private carriers), and HIPAA. Assist in the timely and accurate monthly financial close and prepare accrual entries. Respond to patients' and families' billing inquiries and provide follow-up on billing issues, monitoring progress until resolution. Review daily admissions to ensure prior authorizations are obtained, and Nursing Facility Reimbursement Summaries are scanned into the EMR system by the intake department. Ensure Foundation deposits are properly documented and entered into the accounting software. Monitor daily bank activity and provide the CFO with daily bank transactions. Keeps detailed, auditable, and precise financial records for AR and patient-related AP invoices. Enters patient-related invoices in the AP system for budget manager approval. Prepare denied invoices for the volunteer to create denial letters. Ensure that AR payments in the hospice and palliative care EMR systems reconcile with hard copies and the accounting system. Process fee for service payments received in the bank promptly. Submits payments received to the third-party billing service for entering in EMR system. Oversee the tasks assigned to Finance Department volunteers, including but not limited to the creation of denial letters. Completes monthly reconciliation between EMR system and accounting software. Provide follow-up to third-party billing service questions. Prepare monthly reports detailing AR status. Complete recertification for medicaid MCO's and private insurers. Ensure that accounts over 90 days is being investigated on a consistent basis and document all follow-up. Performs monthly AR reviews and works with third-party billers to resolve problem accounts. Other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certifications such as CPA or CMA are preferred. Proven experience with professional staff, volunteers, family members. Strong knowledge of GAAP standards and technical accounting concepts. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. Ability to handle confidential information and exercise sound judgement. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment with strict deadlines. Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility. Proficient in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding. Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance billing procedures. Effective communication skills for collaboration across teams and mentoring responsibilities. Valid driver's license and insurance. Education and/or Experience Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's preferred
